MobLand Co-Creator on if [Spoiler] Dies in Season Finale

The creator of MobLand has disclosed if a significant character meets their end in the Season 1 finale, after a nail-biting final scene that left viewers speculating. With the crime drama concluding its initial story arc featuring significant power changes and emotional turmoil, Butterworth clarifies the uncertainty surrounding Tom Hardy’s character’s fate.

Jez Butterworth confirms Harry doesn’t die in MobLand’s ending

In the thrilling finale of MobLand’s first season, as confirmed by its creator Jez Butterworth, Tom Hardy’s character, Harry Da Souza, manages to make it through alive.

At the end of the last episode, Harry makes it back home following his assistance against the Stevensons alongside the Harrigans. A heated disagreement ensues, leading to an unfortunate incident where his wife Jan (played by Joanne Froggatt) inadvertently plunges a kitchen knife into Harry’s chest.

In essence, when you consider it, ‘is Harry dead?’ – No. We don’t intend to suggest that because we adore Harry, we also admire Tom.” The scene then shifts after the stabbing incident, and Harry is depicted sitting and joking, which leaves some uncertainty about his condition.

Butterworth pointed out that Harry’s home-related struggles formed the emotional journey of the season. “It was thrillingly dramatic that after enduring trials for ten episodes, what occurred at the end was completely unexpected,” he added. He also mentioned that the constant ups and downs of Harry’s erratic lifestyle put a significant strain on his marriage.

The final scene indicates that Richie Stevenson (Geoff Bell) and his main crew members have perished, while Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and Maeve (Helen Mirren) find themselves behind bars. In a surprising twist, Maeve admits she instigated the conflict to identify a new leader. Kevin (Paddy Considine) emerges as the chosen one, taking on the leadership role, while Seraphina (Mandeep Dhillon) forges an alliance with cartel figure Kat McAllister (Janet McTeer).

Kevin and Bella (played by Lara Pulver) make up, while Eddie (Anson Boon) endures but is turned down by Kevin. According to Butterworth, if the show gets renewed, it will delve deeper into the family’s turmoil and the “Jeeves and Wooster-like bond” that Harry shares with them.

As of this writing, Paramount+ has not officially announced Season 2.
