As a long-time fan of Dwayne Johnson and Disney films, I must say that I am absolutely thrilled about his transformation into Maui for the upcoming Moana live-action movie. It’s not every day that we get to see such a meticulous process unfold right before our eyes!
Dwayne Johnson recently shared insights on the bodysuit he’ll don for the impending live-action version of Moana, discussing the amount of time spent perfecting the suit transforming him into the character, Maui.
Photos of Johnson in costume as Maui have been revealed, showing him wearing a large suit covered in the character’s tattoos. In a recent chat with Extra, Johnson playfully commented that it was amusing when people couldn’t distinguish him at first, when they first donned the suit.
What did Johnson say about his Maui body suit?
Johnson commented, “This outfit required quite some time to get into.” He added, “I’m glad you mentioned ‘You’ve gained muscle,’ as it implies you didn’t notice the change.
Johnson explained that donning the costume required approximately two hours each day for transformation, and initially, the movie’s crew attempted to conceal him from view, but eventually, it proved unavoidable.
The actor explained, “We took photographs outside, and when those images emerged, I exclaimed, ‘Oh dear, we’ve been discovered!’ because we were setting up barriers to keep the paparazzi away. However, they managed to sneak around and start taking photos from boats.
Additionally, alongside Johnson, the upcoming live-action Moana movie will feature Catherine Laga’aia playing the lead character, John Tui portraying Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina, and Rena Owen in the role of Gramma Tala. The remaining cast members have not yet been confirmed.
