As a die-hard fan of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and his incredible journey from wrestling to Hollywood stardom, I can’t help but be thrilled about his latest venture – singing in Moana 2! The man has proven time and again that he can conquer any challenge thrown at him, and this is no exception.
Dwayne Johnson is opening up about recording his “very challenging” song in Moana 2.
In U.S. movie theaters right now is the release of Moana 2. This sequel is directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ladoux Miller, with Johnson back to lend his voice to Maui once more, while Auli’i Cravalho reprises her role as Moana vocally.
In the original Moana film, Johnson sang the hit tune “You’re Welcome,” a song that swiftly gained immense popularity. Similarly, Johnson lends his voice to another track titled “Can I Get a Chee-Hoo?” in Moana 2.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnson shared the reasons behind finding the process of recording “Can I Get a Chee-Hoo?” quite demanding.
What did Dwayne Johnson say about Maui’s Moana 2 song?
He puts it simply, “[Songwriters Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear] are powerhouses when it comes to their songwriting,” he says. “Their work was complex and captivating, which is why we spent multiple sessions to perfect the song. It’s a journey that takes you through various territories, much like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ So while it was challenging, it was also an incredibly rewarding experience.
Johnson wasn’t, however, taken aback when it came to having to rap for the song.
He stated, ‘I was raised on a mix of hip-hop and traditional country music.’ Essentially, my passion for music has always been rooted in both hip-hop and traditional country genres.
The summary for Moana 2 indicates that, three years later, Disney Animation Studios’ grand musical adventure “Moana 2” brings back Moana (voiced by Cravalho) and Maui (voiced by Johnson). This time, they embark on a fresh, far-reaching voyage accompanied by an unusual team of sailors. The story goes that Moana receives an unexpected message from her navigational ancestors, prompting her to set sail across the vast oceans of Polynesia and into perilous, forgotten waters for an adventure unlike any she’s ever encountered before.
