In this new version, we’re not altering the core essence of the character; instead, we’re adding to and broadening it. From the very start, Moana demonstrated remarkable courage by venturing into peril for her people. Now, however, she’s taking on new responsibilities that go beyond her initial role. We wanted to portray her growth in terms of leading her people day-to-day, which is a significant change for her character. – Miller’s explanation

According to the official summary, the forthcoming spin-off sees Moana and Maui reunite three years later for a grand sea voyage with an assortment of unconventional sailors. A mysterious call from her navigational ancestors sends Moana on a quest across the vast Oceania seas, venturing into perilous, forgotten waters for a journey unlike any she’s experienced before.

In the upcoming Moana 2 movie, Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as Maui, Rachel House returns as Tala, Temuera Morrison takes on the part of Tui, and Nicole Scherzinger portrays Sina. The film is being co-directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Miller.
