In simple terms, the animated sequel to Disney’s Moana 2 has broken new ground by garnering the highest viewership count in a single week compared to any other film streamed this year on any platform. The story follows Moana as she embarks on a voyage across Oceania following an unexpected message from her ancestors who guide her navigation. Released digitally on March 12th, exclusively on Disney+, it has since become the most-watched movie in a single week of 2025.
Moana 2 was almost watched for 2 billion minutes in one week
According to statistics from a well-known media viewership tracking company, Moana 2 topped the streaming charts during the period from March 10th to March 16th.
Based on Nielsen’s findings, the movie amassed nearly 2 billion minutes of viewership, significantly outperforming the second-place Reacher series by over 600 million viewing minutes during the same timeframe.
As a result, Moana 2 outperformed Netflix’s Back in Action, which had previously held the title for most single-week watch time in 2025 with 1.54 billion minutes, becoming the movie with the highest viewership during that week. Moreover, the success of the Disney sequel also boosted the weekly view count of its original to a remarkable 223 million. The high digital popularity of this beloved sequel mirrors its box office success. Led by Auli’i Cravalho, the film grossed over $1 billion on a global scale.
Keep in mind that Nielsen’s measurement solely covers viewing time from television sets. Unfortunately, it does not take into account the watch time on mobile devices and other platforms.
For the March 10-March 16 period, aside from Moana 2 (Disney) and Reacher (Amazon Prime Video), other notable original shows with impressive viewership include The Electric State, The White Lotus, Kraven the Hunter, and additional titles. On the other hand, Family Guy and Grey’s Anatomy remained popular on streaming platforms as the two most-watched acquired series during that week.
