As a die-hard AEW fan who has been following MJF’s captivating journey since his debut, I am thrilled to see him taking the Hollywood spotlight with his role in the long-awaited sequel of “Happy Gilmore.” It’s fantastic to see MJF expanding his horizons and breaking into the film industry, but as a fan, I can’t help but miss his electrifying performances inside the ring.
Recently, it’s been noticed that the former AEW World Champion MJF hasn’t appeared on the show since his match against Daniel Garcia at AEW All Out in early September. Latest news provides more insight into why he has been absent from television since then.
For a while now, there’s been intense rivalry between MJF and Daniel Garcia. This feud kicked off a few months back after Garcia viciously assaulted MJF following their match against Will Ospreay on an episode of Dynamite. Then, Garcia disappeared from TV until the AEW All In event, where he reappeared and denied MJF the chance to keep his AEW International Championship.
At the AEW All In event held in London, MJF defended his title against Will Ospreay. However, during the match, Daniel Garcia interfered, distracting MJF. This allowed Ospreay to capitalize on the situation and ultimately defeat MJF, thereby regaining his AEW International Championship.
Following their clash for the International Championship that resulted in MJF’s loss, Garcia faced him at All Out. Eager to emerge victorious against MJF, Garcia unfortunately came up short in the end. After the fight, it appeared as though the tension between them lessened, as MJF extended a hand of friendship towards Garcia.
Instead, Garcia read right through his move. Swiftly, he thwarted MJF’s low blow attempt and countered with one of his own. This was followed by a powerful piledriver from the ropes up high. The medical team rushed over to him promptly, suggesting that the writers might be setting up a storyline involving an injury.
Following its conclusion, news broke out that Maxwell had been added to the cast for Adam Sandler’s upcoming movie “Happy Gilmore 2”. It was officially announced that he would play Gordie Gilmore, one of Happy Gilmore’s sons, in this film. Meanwhile, there have been recent whispers suggesting his potential comeback to All Elite Wrestling.

When is MJF set to return to AEW?
According to Fightful Select’s exclusive updates (available only with a subscription), it appears MJF will have a substantial part in an upcoming Adam Sandler movie. He’s currently engrossed in filming this project, but fans of AEW can look forward to his comeback in the near future, possibly sooner than later.
In the sequel to “Happy Gilmore,” MJF plays a key character. He filmed throughout September and completed the project at the end of the month. It’s likely we’ll see him back on AEW TV soon.
