As a long-time fan of the Mission: Impossible franchise, I must say that the prospect of Glen Powell potentially taking over from Tom Cruise is intriguing, to say the least. With his charismatic screen presence and undeniable talent, Powell certainly has the makings of an excellent action hero. However, it seems that even though he might be ready for such a demanding role, his mother isn’t quite as convinced!
Regarding speculation swirling around Tom Cruise‘s potential retirement from the Mission: Impossible series, Glen Powell, known for his role in Twisters, has addressed the rumors about him stepping into Cruise’s shoes. With the release of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning on the horizon, there have been discussions about Powell taking over the lead role. However, he expresses reservations about his ability to handle such a challenging part.
Glen Powell says his mother won’t let him replace Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 9
During a recent conversation, Glen Powell emphasized the demanding aspect of spearheading the Mission: Impossible film series. Jokingly, he mentioned that his mom wouldn’t let him take over from Tom Cruise in the well-established franchise.
In a chat with Pat McAfee, Powell hinted at his apprehensions regarding the possibility of stepping into Tom Cruise’s role for Mission: Impossible 9. On his visit to The Pat McAfee Show, Powell made it seem as though he won’t be involved in any future Mission: Impossible movies.
He playfully said, “My mom would never allow me to do something like that,” and then he referred to the performance as “the most disastrous show in town.” Additionally, Powell subtly suggested the risky nature of the Mission: Impossible task by describing it as a “deadly trap.” (via Variety)
Remarkably, the action-packed Mission: Impossible movie franchise has earned significant acclaim thanks to Tom Cruise’s dedication to performing his own stunts. He made headlines by scaling the Burj Khalifa in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and took things a step further in its sequel. The star of Top Gun performed a daring feat where he clung onto a moving plane in the fifth installment, and in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, he was seen driving a motorcycle off a cliff.
As of now, it’s unclear if Tom Cruise’s involvement with the Mission: Impossible franchise will conclude after its eighth installment. Consequently, the appearance of Glen Powell in the series can be considered as purely speculative at this point in time. The release date for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in the U.S. is set for May 23, 2025.
