The initial reviews for Mission: Impossible 8 have arrived, and although they generally commend the film, the early feedback indicates the franchise’s lowest collective response in quite a while.
What are the Mission: Impossible 8 reactions saying?
In its debut on Rotten Tomatoes, Mission: Impossible – Fallout garnered an 88% rating. Although this is the lowest score for the franchise since 2006’s Mission: Impossible III, overall reactions to the final installment in the iconic series have been overwhelmingly favorable.
USA Today’s Brian Truitt highly commended the movie by stating that fans “wouldn’t find a more thrilling, death-defying, heart-stopping, edge-of-your-seat conclusion.” Richard Lawson from Vanity Fair described it as a “satisfactory finale,” suggesting it may not quite reach its pinnacle, but still manages to impress.
Critic Owen Gleiberman from Variety found the film enjoyable, commenting that it is “adequate to evoke the excitement of watching a high-stakes, intricate, seemingly implausible action movie filled with popcorn entertainment.” Manohla Dargis from The New York Times labeled the movie as “absolutely preposterous,” but considered it an excellent demonstration of a well-crafted blockbuster.
According to Jonathan Sim from ComingSoon, this movie was a “memorably magnificent blockbuster” that while not quite surpassing the heights set by the series, was still an enjoyable ride.
In addition to Cruise, the cast of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning features Hayley Atwell playing Grace, Ving Rhames portraying Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg in the role of Benji Dunn, Esai Morales as Gabriel, Pom Klementieff as Paris, Henry Czerny as Kittridge, Holt McCallany as Bernstein, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman as Sydney, Hannah Waddingham, Angela Bassett as Erika Sloane, Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs, Greg Tarzan Davis as Degas, and Charles Parnell.
The plot of the movie can be summarized as, ‘The course of our lives depends on the decisions we make.’ Starring Tom Cruise, this is Mission: Impossible – Fallout.
The movie is led by director Christopher McQuarrie, who collaborated with Erik Jendresen on the screenplay. Tom Cruise and McQuarrie are also involved in production for the film. Meanwhile, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Chris Brock all hold executive producer roles.
Mission: Impossible 8 will be released in U.S. theaters on May 23, 2025, from Paramount Pictures.
