A Pokémon TCG Pocket game enthusiast was taken back by a trip down memory lane after receiving a malfunctioning booster pack.
Digitally Trading Cards
In simpler terms, Pokémon TCG Pocket is a Nintendo-made digital version of the traditional Trading Card Game (TCG), which debuted in October 2024. The main difference from the physical game is that your cards reside within the app, and you can challenge friends remotely instead of needing them physically present to battle.
In essence, what we’re dealing with here is a solitaire version of a Trading Card Game (TCG). The app allows for CPU battles, offering flexibility – you can pause whenever you like, multitask, and even if you need to step away during a fight, the game will pick up where you left off.
Absolutely! If you’d rather challenge real opponents, you can opt for random battles or set up a private room with a friend. Keep in mind that these matches are timed to avoid one player leaving the other waiting excessively. Additionally, the game introduced a card trading feature back in January 2025; however, it’s currently quite limited in scope.
Instead of physically unwrapping a card pack, using the digital version may not provide the same level of pleasure. However, this mobile application remains a handy tool for playing a Trading Card Game even when you’re on-the-go or lacking immediate opponents.
Nostalgia Through A Glitch
Currently, a Pokemon TCG Pocket player has shared a post that stirred up some strong feelings of nostalgia among dedicated Pokemon enthusiasts. As they were unboxing the latest Space-Time Smackdown set, this player found themselves with a pack containing glitched cards featuring graphic mistakes.
Jokingly, they referred to this glitch as a “MissingNo. Pack”:

Historically, the term MissingNo. originated from an old bug in the Pokémon Red and Blue video games. Players could stumble upon a mysterious, pixelated creature that wasn’t officially named. Since the game displayed it as “MissingNo.” when encountered, fans began to refer to this glitch Pokémon by that name.
This glitch became so famous that there were even guides on how to cause it:
- First, the player views an in-game tutorial on Pokémon capture in Viridian City.
- Next, they use a Pokémon with the ‘Fly’ move to quickly travel to Cinnabar Island.
- Finally, by using a Pokémon with the ‘Surf’ move, the player moves up and down along the island’s eastern shore until encountering a MissingNo.
In spite of Nintendo alerting players about this bug and advising that interacting with it could potentially delete your game file or distort graphics, they neglected to eliminate it when re-releasing Pokémon Red and Blue in 2016. Intriguingly, they even acknowledged its existence in a video on the official Pokémon YouTube Channel in 2024.
Indeed, the technical issue in the Pokémon TCG Pocket being likened to the legendary MissingNo., brought back a warm wave of nostalgia for dedicated Pokémon enthusiasts.
Have you ever come across MissingNo. on your own during the older days of the game series? Or perhaps you’ve discovered other enjoyable glitches throughout the years within this enduring franchise. Share your experiences with us in the comments below!
