On February 19, 2016, the Tamil action horror movie “Miruthan” premiered in cinemas. This film, centered around a zombie outbreak, garnered a mix of reactions when it first came out. Now, nine years later, you can stream it online on OTT platforms.

Official trailer and plot of Miruthan

The title “Miruthan” is thoughtfully constructed from the Tamil words for ‘animal’ (Mirugam) and ‘man’ (Manithan), reflecting the plot where humanity faces a zombie apocalypse.

Miruthan proceeds to describe an imaginary situation happening in Tamil Nadu, where there’s an unforeseen spill of a toxic substance outside a chemical lab in Ooty. Anybody who ingests or is exposed to this substance becomes violently ill and transforms into something resembling a zombie.

In the midst of troubling circumstances, there’s the life of a traffic inspector named Karthik, who has feelings for a cardiology doctor called Renuka.

Over the course of the narrative, we find Karthik confronting a zombie outbreak after his own sister vanishes. Subsequently, we witness his efforts in resolving this predicament and restoring order within the town.

Cast and crew of Miruthan

Apart from Ravi Mohan playing the main character, Miruthan also stars Lakshmi Menon as the leading lady. Additional actors in this film are Anikha Surendran, Kaali Venkat, Sriman, RNR Manohar, Jeeva Ravi, Amit Bhargav, and others.

The film was penned and orchestrated by Shakti Soundar Rajan, while its soundtrack was created by D Imman.
