As a dedicated follower and advocate for women’s rights, I have been deeply saddened and angered by the recent revelations of sexual misconduct and abuse in the Malayalam film industry. The courage shown by actresses like Minu Muneer to come forward and share their traumatic experiences is commendable, and it is time for the industry to take action against those who have been named as perpetrators.
Ever since the Justice Hema report was made public, the Malayalam film industry has been grappling with a significant crisis. Numerous actresses and junior artists have spoken up about the sexual harassment they experienced within Mollywood, openly disclosing their accounts. In recent times, some actresses have even accused well-known figures like actor Siddique and director Ranjith of being sexual predators.
Today, actress Minu Muneer publicly accused MLA Mukesh from Kerala’s state legislative assembly, Maniyanpilla Raju, Idavela Babu, actor Jayasurya, and certain unnamed production controllers of physical and verbal mistreatment. She specifically called out those individuals who facilitated the abuse.

“In a Facebook post, this actress shared that she experienced repeated incidents of both physical and verbal abuse from Mukesh, Maniyanpilla Raju, Idavela Babu, Jayasurya, Advocate Chandrasekharan, production controller Noble, and Vichu within the Malayalam film industry. In 2013, she was subjected to such mistreatment while working on a project, which she tried to endure and continue with her work. However, the abuse became intolerable, forcing her to leave the Malayalam film industry and move to Chennai. She had previously spoken out about this abuse in a newspaper article. Now, she is seeking justice and accountability for the pain and hardship she suffered. She asks for your help in taking appropriate action against these individuals for their despicable actions.”
Additionally, Minu Muneer disclosed a troubling encounter with actor and MLA, Mukesh. As Minu recounted, upon her attempt to join the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), Mukesh allegedly requested sexual favors in exchange for her membership.
During an interview with ANI, Minu Muneer shared a past experience where actor Jayasurya allegedly behaved unfairly towards her during a filming session back in 2008.
In the heart of our bustling state capital, as I made my way back from a quick restroom break, none other than the charismatic Jayasurya swooped in for an unexpected kiss! Caught off guard, I shoved him aside and fled the scene. Later on, he extended an invitation to his humble abode. However, after politely declining, there were no further complications from his side.
Currently, prominent figure in Malayalam cinema, Maniyanpilla Raju, has expressed a desire for a thorough investigation. He shared with the press that given the circumstances, there’s a risk others might exploit his reputation for financial and personal gain.
Raju stated that certain individuals might seek advantage from the circumstances. Not all of those implicated are necessarily guilty, some may be innocent. Thus, a thorough inquiry is essential.
Mohanlal to face the media soon
1. The president and popular figure in A.M.M.A., Mohanlal, is expected to speak with the media shortly about the ongoing issues. Accusations against Siddique, the general secretary of A.M.M.A., have been made, and Mohanlal may address these allegations by answering some questions.
Currently, Mohanlal is in Chennai to oversee the sound mixing of his first directorial venture titled “Barroz.” Unfortunately, a scheduled press meeting set for Tuesday, August 27, has been rescheduled because Mohanlal needs to attend to some pressing personal matters.
