Minecraft 2: Did Notch Really Just Announce This?

The buzz around Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, the genius behind Minecraft, has been spreading like crazy! On January 3rd, he asked his fans in a poll which game they thought he should develop next, and a lot of them voted for a sequel or successor to Minecraft. But

Don’t Give Us Hope

81% of over 280,000 users who cast their votes have shown strong interest in a Minecraft sequel, by selecting the ‘Let’s Make Minecraft 2 a Hit!‘ option. They opted against the alternative choice, which proposed a traditional roguelike game combined with a first-person tile-based dungeon crawler.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement after Notch hinted at something thrilling in a series of tweets. He explicitly stated that he was ‘completely serious about everything,’ and in essence, it seemed like he was ‘announcing the sequel to Minecraft.’ Furthermore, his desire to delve into new game development projects was evident, and surprisingly, he even showed a readiness to collaborate with Microsoft, who at present, hold the rights to Minecraft.

I’m eager to hear your honest thoughts about the game I’m developing: It combines elements of classic roguelikes, such as ADOM and nethack, with first-person dungeon crawlers featuring tile-based graphics, similar to Legend of Grimrock (especially its second installment) and Eye of the Beholder.

Given this background, many were doubtful that the game he referred to as ‘Adventureland’ upon its announcement would ever be released.

There Goes That Dream

4 thrilling days filled with dreams, anticipation, and theories. The individual who ignited the spark has now extinguished it. Yeah, I still adore PC Gamer.

Some could contend that Notch is leveraging the Minecraft brand to create excitement for their latest project. However, devoted followers can rest easy knowing that Minecraft still gets frequent updates. Given its impressive 200 million active players as of late last month, this isn’t unexpected. After all, money keeps the world spinning – but Minecraft ensures it does so in a neat, cubic fashion!
