MindsEye studio boss continues to blame “internal and external saboteurs’ on the game’s colossal failures

Launch of MindsEye, first game by Build A Rocket Boy, received harsh criticism from reviewers and disappointing sales, causing the title to be placed in the discount section prematurely and leading to regrettable job losses within the studio team.

After the disappointing launch of MindsEye, I, a gamer, can’t help but echo the sentiments expressed by Leslie Benzies, who was at the helm for GTA V. He pointed fingers at unseen internal and external forces as the culprits behind the game’s underperformance. Meanwhile, reviews on Glassdoor suggest that the company’s leadership may be the source of these issues.

MindsEye boss blames everyone else

Through IGN’s reporting, Benzies attributed the game’s high-profile flop to issues both within the development team and external factors in a meeting with employees. Furthermore, an email from Build A Rocket Boy (acquired by PlayFusion) warned staff that their positions could be at risk.

During the same phone call, it’s said that Benzies suggested that Build A Rocket Boy plans to revive MindsEye once prepared, incorporating player feedback to make significant improvements.

In simpler terms, MindsEye was only a portion of the studio’s broader “Everywhere” initiative. This project aimed to create a sophisticated environment similar to Roblox, featuring numerous interconnected open-worlds using portals as links. As of now, it appears that Everywhere is still being worked on and developed further.

The “Build A Rocket Boy’s Mind’s Eye” project isn’t limited to just players. Interestingly, the actor portraying the main character, Jason Diaz (played by Alex Hernandez), expressed his shared dissatisfaction with the game’s quality in a recent interview.

As a player myself, I can’t help but feel a common sense of annoyance. It’s puzzling, isn’t it? I mean, it seems odd for a corporation to roll out a product that appears unfinished.

Regardless of who you might be, whether you’re a newcomer or an experienced player, if the game has issues, I see those issues equally,” he explained.

At present, the job cuts at Build A Rocket Boy are occurring during a challenging period within the gaming sector. Simultaneously, numerous game developers have recently been dismissed from Microsoft, leaving behind projects like Everwild, Perfect Dark, and the upcoming MMO from Zenimax Online, which have all been canceled.
