MindsEye Off To A Difficult Start – Is Rockstar Behind It?

A few days back, criticism was leveled at MindsEye when Mark Gerhard, a former Rockstar employee and co-CEO of Build a Rocket Boy (BARB), publicly discussed an alleged smear campaign directed towards their newly launched game.

MindsEye, You Deserved Better

While they “really aimed” to make it great, several players feel that the game lacks polish and seems unfinished in its current state.

The game has been criticized for issues like disappearing saves, bugs that prevent story missions from being finished, and poor performance even on powerful hardware. However, according to Mark Gerhard, these problems are not entirely MindsEye’s fault, but rather a result of a deliberate negative campaign targeting the game.

IO Interactive Doesn’t Believe In Theories

Before the official launch, there was a lot of skepticism among players due to the lack of distributed review copies and limited gameplay shown in trailers. However, the CEO of IO Interactive, Hakan Abrak, has stated that it is the early reviews from those who received the physical version prior to release that have been unduly negative. He denies any involvement of Rockstar in an organized or paid PR campaign aimed at negativity. Instead, he asserts that the game, along with its day-one patch, will win over players once it’s released, considering it’s common practice nowadays to work on updates and enhancements up until the last moment. Therefore, we should all be patient and look forward to seeing how the launch unfolds.

So… Players Are Right?

Players believe they have every justification for responding as they do, given their perception that the game is in a dire state. The performance and system requirements are frequently criticized, while others find the voice-over lacking inspiration and dull. However, some players appreciate the story and eagerly anticipate the game’s future developments. Nevertheless, there’s a common consensus among players: the game appears incomplete and requires substantial enhancements. It’s important to clarify that this is not a fault of Rockstar.

Have you given MindsEye a try? Does it strike you as an ideal blend of Saints Row and Grand Theft Auto, or do you, too, encounter frequent crashes while using it?
