During the debut of Miley Cyrus’ visual album, “Something Beautiful,” at the Tribeca Festival in New York City’s Beacon Theatre, there were some disruptive audience members who interjected during the discussion, causing a commotion that eventually required Miley to address the situation directly.
Here’s what happened.
What happened to Miley Cyrus at Tribeca Festival?
During the premiere of her visual album “Something Beautiful” at New York City’s Beacon Theatre on June 6, 2025, for the Tribeca Festival, Miley Cyrus encountered an unexpected disruption when some audience members started heckling. The event was intended to be a screening and interactive discussion with Cyrus, co-directors Brendan Walter and Jacob Bixenman, and producer Panos Cosmatos. Unfortunately, a few enthusiastic fans in the crowd disrupted the proceedings.
In a video posted on X (previously Twitter), there was an audience member who exclaimed, “We believed this was a concert. We spent $800.” Another spectator shouted, “Are you really going to perform some songs?” These queries sparked a strong response from the crowd, as it appeared that many attendees had the same confusion. Cyrus seemed taken aback by the shouting and tried to keep the event moving forward.
Did we come to a movie premiere or a concert? We spent $800 and now you’re saying you won’t be singing…?

But things grew more intense when someone in the audience asked Cyrus to perform “The Climb.” To this request, she replied, “You need to begin it,” and then gave a brief, unaccompanied rendition of her 2009 hit. This unexpected performance was met with applause from the crowd.
Footage from the event rapidly circulated on social platforms, garnering support for Cyrus and criticism towards the audience. On X, one user commented, “These people are just appalling… It’s a MOVIE festival, featuring a PREMIERE of a FILM followed by a DISCUSSION with Miley afterwards. At no point was it suggested that this would be something other than that.
One person observed, “Those same individuals who were shouting at her for singing will return to their workplaces in retail or food service, and they’ll grumble when customers act rudely or shout at them.
