As a seasoned gamer and a lover of all things animated, hearing about the upcoming Mighty Mouse movie has me buzzing with excitement! I remember fondly watching those classic cartoons as a kid, and the thought of seeing a big-screen adaptation is simply thrilling.
A Mighty Mouse movie is in the works.
Originating from Terrytoons, which was developed by Paul Terry and Izzy Klein for 20th Century Fox, Mighty Mouse is a superhero character with an anthropomorphic nature. He first officially surfaced in the 1942 short film “The Mouse of Tomorrow.” Over the years, this iconic figure has been featured in numerous shorts, cartoons, and other media.
According to recent updates, Paramount Animation is progressing with a new project – a full-length animated movie based on the character Mighty Mouse. The production of this film will be handled by Ryan Reynold’s production company, Maximum Effort Productions.
What else do we know about Paramount’s new Mighty Mouse movie?
Matt Lieberman has been selected to pen the script for an upcoming film. In the past, Lieberman collaborated on the screenplay for the movie Free Guy from 2021, which featured Reynolds and was helmed by Shawn Levy. Additionally, he contributed to writing projects such as The Christmas Chronicles (2018), The Addams Family (2019), Playing with Fire (2019), Scoob! (2020), The Christmas Chronicles 2 (2020), and Rumble (2021).
At present, Brad Butler is tasked with managing the project under Paramount Animation. As of now, no details regarding casting have been disclosed, and the identity of the director remains undisclosed for the time being.
According to an article in Variety, Maximum Effort has multiple projects in progress alongside Paramount, such as “Boy Band,” a comedy revolving around the reunion of a musical group; “Starter Villain,” an adaptation based on John Scalzi’s top-selling science fiction novel; and “Eloise,” a cinematic take on the cherished family book series. It was also revealed in February that Maximum Effort had extended its contract with Paramount, keeping the collaboration active until 2026.
Recently, Reynolds stepped back into the role of Wade Wilson (Deadpool) alongside Wolverine in Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine, now streaming on Disney+. Earlier this year, he appeared as Cal in John Krasinski’s film IF, and next up is a character in the upcoming Animal Friends movie – a live-action/animation hybrid set to be released in August 2025.
The Mighty Mouse movie does not yet have a release date.
