Mid-Century Modern’s Matt Bomer Blasts Being Outed by Tabloids: ‘It Felt Unfair’

More recently, Matt Bomer – a noteworthy figure of Mid-Century Modern style – shared his feelings about being exposed by gossip magazines during the early 2010s.

What did Matt Bomer say about being outed?

In a recent conversation on the Dinner’s on Me podcast hosted by Jesse Tyler Fergusson, Bomer shared an incident from his past when someone else took control of his personal story before he had a chance to tell it himself.

Bomer pointedly criticized outlets such as Perez Hilton, whom he felt would frequently discuss his private life before he had the chance to do so himself. This wasn’t due to his unwillingness, but rather because he simply didn’t have the opportunity to share it first.

Back in 2012, I proudly stood among the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards’ honorees, a moment that held special significance as it was here where I chose to openly declare my identity as a gay man. In my heartfelt speech, I expressed deep gratitude towards my husband, Simon Halls, our three wonderful children, and all they bring to my life. While whispers about my personal life had circulated prior to this event, it was now that I decided to set the record straight and embrace who I truly am.

Last year, as stated in an interview with THR’s Awards Chatter podcast, Bomer felt unfairly denied the opportunity to play Superman in a movie produced by Brett Ratner, due to internet speculations about his sexuality causing a stir. Despite not concealing his romantic ties, he believes that the role was wrongfully taken away from him.

Bomer expressed that his career wasn’t significant enough for such attention. He felt it was unjust because others with more media exposure were receiving it at the time. He described the period as strange, even when they walked in public, their family images were often captured by photographers.
