Set for release next week, PlayStation 5 owners are wondering if they will ever get to play Avowed.
The game titled “Avowed” is a role-playing game that can be played from both first-person and third-person perspectives, which was developed by Obsidian Entertainment within the universe of “Pillars of Eternity”. Initially proposed as Obsidian’s version of “Skyrim”, the game focuses more on intricate storytelling and interactive narratives with your companions.
The game is set for a public launch on February 18, 2025, available on both Windows and Xbox Series X/S platforms. However, those who can’t wait can get early access by purchasing the premium edition now.
Is Avowed Going To Release on PS5?
Avowed is exclusively available on Xbox and PC because Obsidian Entertainment was purchased by Microsoft in 2018, which means they now develop games for Xbox Game Studios.
Historically, games exclusive to Xbox were seldom found on PlayStation, but this trend has been shifting recently. Titles such as Sea of Thieves and the forthcoming Forza Horizon 5 port in the spring are examples of this change.
This transition implies that there might be a possibility for additional Xbox Game Studios titles, such as “Avowed”, to potentially become available on PlayStation in the future, should they not sell well on Xbox and PC platforms.
According to Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, the company intends to expand the availability of its Xbox titles across various platforms. No specific game or series has been ruled out for this cross-platform release strategy. (Bloomberg)
“I do not see sort of red lines in our portfolio that say ‘thou must not.'”
Continuing with the thought of making more Xbox games available on other gaming platforms, Spencer stated to Danny Peña on January 24th that Microsoft isn’t “intending to restrict the games from being offered elsewhere.
In my current situation, I view hardware as an essential component of our operations, rather than attempting to restrict access to games from other platforms.
The evidence confirms it; Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released for PlayStation 5 this coming spring, with its arrival happening merely a few months following its debut on Xbox.
Given that Avowed is one of the year’s most thrilling new games in 2025, it would undoubtedly receive acclaim from PlayStation 5 gamers if it became available on its main rival’s platform as well.
Yet, there’s been no public announcement about the release of PS5. This implies that eager fans might need to stay patient and observe whether Microsoft broadens its distribution.
So far, “Avowed” has been generally praised for its captivating role-playing game mechanics, immersive world creation, and well-developed characters, however, some reviewers noted certain technical problems and a slight absence of novelty.
Although some people highly appreciated its engaging storyline and sleek aesthetics, others criticized its imbalanced upgrade system and felt that the story was not as powerful as they had anticipated.
Fear not, PlayStation enthusiasts, for it is highly probable that you won’t miss out on the next Marvel’s Spider-Man installment, tentatively titled “Marvel’s Spider-Man 3”, as its launch is projected to occur before the year 2030.
Avowed releases for Windows and Xbox Series X/S on February 18, 2025, for $69.99 USD.
