Microsoft Follows Nintendo’s Lead And Raises Prices For Games And Consoles

Microsoft has declared that they will be raising the prices for Xbox systems globally, mirroring Nintendo’s move which established a new pricing benchmark with the release of “Super Mario Kart World.

It seems that Nintendo’s bold approach toward game pricing, as some had anticipated, appears to have set new norms for AAA titles.

Microsoft Is Also Tightening The Price Screw

According to Windows Central, Microsoft is planning to increase prices of certain games like Forza and upcoming Call of Duty titles to $80 by the 2025 holiday season. Notably, the price hike will not be limited to games, as the cost of the Xbox console and associated accessories such as controllers are also expected to rise. Currently, the Xbox Series X is available for a remarkable $599, making it quite surprising when you consider that it’s been around for five years and the new PlayStation 5 Pro costs just $100 more!

The Game Pass Sounds More And More Tempting

Glancing at it, the Xbox Game Pass clearly establishes itself as a deal that’s hard to beat. Lately, there’s been an influx of fantastic new games added to the Game Pass on a near-daily basis.

Here are some of the upcoming games: “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33”, “Blue Prince”, “Oblivion: Remastered”, and next week, “Doom: The Dark Ages”. Tomorrow, May 6, you can look forward to “Dredge” and on July 11, the remastered versions of “Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3/4” will be available.

The Game Pass is especially worthwhile for trying out new games and rediscovering old classics.

Is It All Thanks To Nintendo?

Instead of solely accusing Nintendo for the current situation, let’s take a step back and consider history. Regrettably, I too invested 90€ in Diablo IV, and even then, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was delivered as a download link on a CD.

That doesn’t mean that Nintendo is innocent.

Due to Nintendo’s historic reputation for providing games that cater to families, and considering today’s inflation where costs are rising, the price hike is particularly conspicuous.

Are you prepared to spend that much money on games in the future?
