The Michael Jackson biopic, titled Michael, might be split into two parts.
Michael’s film from Lionsgate is set for release in October as planned. Interestingly, it received little attention during their CinemaCon presentation on April 1, 2025, despite footage of the movie being shown at CinemaCon 2024. This has raised some questions among fans about potential delays for the film.
As reported by Deadline, the existing version of “Michael” runs approximately four hours. Splitting it into two films is one possibility being considered, but it’s important to note that this decision isn’t finalized yet.
Is the Michael Jackson biopic movie still being released in 2025?
Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider reported that Michael will likely be heading to 2026.
Sneider stated, “I find it highly unlikely that the release will extend beyond next year. As of now, the studio has Michael scheduled for October, but for it to meet that deadline, marketing for the movie would need to start immediately. However, Lionsgate hasn’t shown a trailer for Michael or even mentioned it much, which leads me to believe that there is virtually no chance this film will be released in 2021.
The deadline indicates that it’s highly probable Michael won’t meet its existing release dates. However, it’s important to consider that Universal is managing the overseas distribution, while Japan sales are being handled separately. Access to IMAX screens plays a crucial role in releasing such large-scale concert movies.
As of when this article was written, Lionsgate hasn’t provided any updates or changed the release date for the movie, so it’s currently scheduled to come out on October 3, 2025.
