Metal Gear Solid producer wants MGS4 Remake, but admits it’s a “real challenge”

I was really excited to read a recent interview with Metal Gear Solid producer Noriaki Okamura! Apparently, he told Real Sound (and Metal Gear Network translated it) that he’d personally love to see a remake of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. He did say it would be a tough project, but still, the thought of a reimagined MGS4 is awesome!

Okamura explains the difficulty stemmed from the PlayStation 3’s hardware. He says that the technology of that time forced them to make some very specific design decisions to achieve good 3D graphics, resulting in some unconventional code for Metal Gear Solid 4.

Okamura has expressed his desire for a Metal Gear Solid 4 remake, but the team hasn’t yet committed to a specific direction for the series. He explains they are currently exploring options, considering both another remake and the possibility of developing a completely original game.

Okamura explains that each remake or reimagining of a Metal Gear Solid title will be handled differently. Since the series has evolved from simple pixel art to cinematic visuals, Konami won’t use the same approach for every game – the method used for Metal Gear Solid Delta won’t be a one-size-fits-all solution.

More Metal Gear Solid remakes, please

We’re hoping Konami and the team who made Delta will create more remakes, like they did with Metal Gear Solid 4. If they continue chronologically, Portal Ops and Peace Walker would be the logical next steps, followed by Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. However, Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain haven’t been out long enough to really need remakes just yet.

Following the original Metal Gear games, Metal Gear Solid on PlayStation is a fan favorite. Many players are hoping Konami remakes this classic title, but Konami says it would be a more challenging project than remaking Snake Eater. This is because a Metal Gear Solid remake would require building a lot of entirely new content. So, even if Konami does decide to remake another game, it likely won’t be released for quite some time.

Metal Gear Solid Delta faithfully recreates what many consider the best game in the series, and its story is fantastic. While it initially had some performance issues on the PS5 Pro, it was generally very well-received. Interestingly, the original creator, Hideo Kojima, doesn’t intend to play it, as he hopes the game industry will focus on creating truly innovative experiences.

Konami is considering a new Metal Gear Solid game, but many fans feel it won’t be the same without Hideo Kojima, the series’ creator. They seem more focused on revisiting older games through remakes. While Kojima is working on a new espionage game called Physint, it’s still a long way off.
