As a seasoned gamer with years of virtual reality (VR) experience under my belt, I must say that the announcement of the Meta Quest 3S has piqued my interest. Coming from a gamer who’s been through multiple generations of VR headsets, I can appreciate the balance between cost and performance that Meta seems to be aiming for with this new model.
Meta Connect unveiled the Quest 3S, an economical version of their virtual reality headset. Priced lower than the Quest 3, it offers several of its primary characteristics and specifications, albeit with some cost-saving adjustments. The release date is set for October.
On its official store, Meta offers comprehensive details about the Quest 3S. This model features a fresnel design, boasting six external cameras. Inside, it houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chipset, similar to the standard Quest 3. Compared to the Quest 3, the Quest 3S has a slightly bulkier visor and lower pixel count per eye.
Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, explained what innovation means to us on X. We provide options for those new to Mixed Reality as well as those seeking a premium experience with the upcoming Quest 3 featuring 512GB storage and 4K resolution.
The Meta Quest 3S is available in two storage variants: 128GB and 256GB. Their respective prices are set at $299 and $399 USD.
