Meet actor who was married to a director and later got separated; has worked with Suriya, Nani and was once held for tax evasion

As a devoted follower of the vibrant and resilient Amala Paul, I find myself deeply captivated by her journey from a young actress with aspirations to a celebrated figure in the South film industry. Born into a family where art was deeply ingrained, it was only natural for her to follow the artistic path laid out before her by her father and mother.

Amala Paul, a stunning actress from India, is well-known in the Southern movie industry. Her cinematic journey commenced with a small part in a Malayalam film, but she later expanded her repertoire to work in Tamil and Telugu films within the South industries. Unfortunately, she gained considerable attention when she was apprehended on charges of tax evasion. Additionally, there have been numerous headlines about her tumultuous marital issues with a renowned film director.

Who is Amala Paul?

Born on October 26, 1991, Amala Paul hails from a Syro-Malabar Catholic Syrian Christian family. Her birthplace was the city of Ernakulam, in Kerala. She is the daughter of Paul Varghese and Annice Paul. Amala has an actor brother named Abijith Paul who shares her family lineage.

After finishing her education at Nirmala Higher Secondary School in Aluva, the actress went on to attend St. Teresa’s College in Kochi, where she earned a B.A. degree in English. Notably, her father, who sadly passed away in 2017, initially disapproved of her pursuit of acting as a full-time career. However, he eventually came around with the support of Amala’s brother, who strongly advocated for her aspirations.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve often found myself drawing inspiration from my own upbringing, much like the actress who shared her creative journey in an earlier interview. You see, just as she was nurtured by parents with artistic passions – her father immersed in theatre during his college years and her mother a talented singer – I too was surrounded by the vibrant world of art from an early age. This rich environment instilled in me a deep appreciation for the beauty and power of artistic expression, shaping who I am today as a lifestyle enthusiast.

Amala Paul’s filmography

Following the completion of her educational journey, Amala Paul embarked on her professional path in the film industry with Lal Jose’s Malayalam movie titled “Neelathamara.” This production was launched in 2009 and proved to be a commercial success, yet it didn’t bring any additional offers for the actress, as she had expected.

Afterwards, she agreed to act in a modest Tamil movie titled Vikadakavi, which experienced delays and eventually premiered as her sixth film. Following the acclaim for Mynaa, Amala garnered the title of ‘2011’s rising leading actress’ and went on to accept multiple roles.

2010 was the year I found myself in Veerasekaran, a role that seemed insignificant at first glance. However, looking back, I can’t help but feel a pang of regret for accepting this part, as much of my screen time ended up on the cutting room floor. Yet, the very same year, I found myself embroiled in the contentious Sindhu Samaveli, where I played Sundari, a character who had an illicit relationship with her father-in-law. It was this role that truly pushed me into the limelight and established me as a force to be reckoned with in the industry, leading up to my breakthrough in the romantic drama film Mynaa by Prabhu Solomon.

In the year 2015, actress Amala boasted four consecutive film releases. Two of these films, “The Goat Life” and “Aadai,” saw her paired with Nivin Pauly in a Malayalam production that was one of the top-grossing films of the year. Additionally, she teamed up with Suriya for “Pasanga 2,” another box office success. Notable among Amala Paul’s works are also “Cadaver,” “Velai Illa Pattathari,” “Raayan,” and “Iddarammayilatho,” as well as several other projects.

Amala Paul arrested in tax evasion case

In January 2018, Amala was apprehended due to suspicions of tax fraud. An investigation by the police revealed that the actress had falsified documents for her high-end car’s registration in Puducherry, where Velai Illa Pattathari 2 is set. Amala Paul’s legal team stated that she had properly registered her vehicle for her rented property in Puducherry. Nevertheless, the charges against Amala Paul were eventually dropped due to jurisdictional complications.

Amala Paul’s personal life

In the year 2013, Amala was involved in the film Deiva Thirumagal and there were rumors of her dating director A. L. Vijay. However, both of them denied these speculations. On the 7th of June, 2014, Amala Paul and Vijay confirmed their relationship by getting engaged in Kochi. They later got married on the 12th of June, 2014, in Chennai.

However, fate took a different turn and in 2016, Amala and Vijay sought divorce because of clashes between her and her husband’s family over her acting profession. Following their separation, she wed businessman Jagat Desai in 2023. They welcomed their son Ilai into the world, and today, August 13th, they celebrate their first wedding anniversary as a loving couple.

To mark their anniversary, Amala Paul shared several heartwarming photos with her husband Jagat Desai and their son Ilai. They celebrated both occasions at home, enjoying a delicious cake, snuggling their little one, and capturing some sweet moments for the camera. Notably, Amala Paul skillfully manages her roles as a loving mother and successful actress in the film industry.
