Max Payne remake is in “full production” as Control 2 enters “production readiness”

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the gaming landscape is brimming with anticipation for Remedy’s upcoming titles. The long-awaited return of Alan Wake was just the beginning; we now have Max Payne remakes and Control 2 on the horizon!

It’s a thrilling period for enthusiasts of Remedy Entertainment. Despite not being a massive financial success, we received the long-awaited Alan Wake 2 last year and it offered an outstanding horror adventure. Even though Alan Wake 2 has been and gone, there are more reasons to look forward to in the future such as remakes of the cherished Max Payne series and a follow-up to Control. The Max Payne remakes have moved into full production, while Control 2 has reached “production readiness”.

In 2022, I learned with excitement that Remedy and Rockstar were collaborating on remakes of the Max Payne series, specifically the first two original games. Regrettably, it seems there won’t be a remake of the third installment, as that was developed by Rockstar independently.

Both games are still not coming out soon, but Remedy has provided updates on their development.

Max Payne remakes enter “full production”

Recently, Remedy Entertainment has unveiled their interim financial report covering the period from January to June 2024. This document showcases a rise in earnings, which is noteworthy, but what truly excites fans is the progress update on the upcoming remakes of Max Payne and the announcement of Control 2.

In simple terms, this update from October 2023 indicates that the remake of Max Payne 1 and 2 has progressed to a point where it is now ready for full-scale production, starting from April to June.

Staying with Max Payne, CEO Tero Virtala has also reported that, in the second quarter of 2024, “Development fees increased from the comparison period due to higher development fees from Max Payne 1&2 remake“.

As a seasoned video game enthusiast with over two decades of playing games under my belt, I must say that I am genuinely excited about the latest update regarding the upcoming remakes. The fact that the development team is working tirelessly to bring these games to an early functional state from start to finish shows their dedication and commitment to delivering a high-quality gaming experience.

Control 2 enters “production readiness”

As Control Version 2, it advances to a “production-ready” stage, building upon the successful proof-of-concept achieved by the end of 2023. Here’s a progress report on our ongoing game development:

“Our game development team recently achieved a significant step by producing a playable version of Control 2, highlighting key features. This demonstration has been beneficial for our current business discussions. Now, the team is focusing on increasing the scale of production for this project.”

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been part of the action as Remedy Studios has been delving deep into the development of Control’s multiplayer spin-off, codenamed Condor. This project is now in full swing, and the dedicated team has been crafting various maps and mission types, all while orchestrating internal and select external playtesting sessions for feature validation and feedback.

It appears that we’re still in for a considerable wait until Max Payne and Control 2 officially debut. Given the current progress on Control 2, it seems reasonable to expect the Max Payne remakes first, but it’s hard to imagine either game launching before 2026.
