Matthew Perry’s Doctor to Plead Guilty After Actor’s Fatal Ketamine Overdose

Matthew Perry’s physician, who provided the late actor with ketamine, is set to admit guilt in connection to Perry’s fatal overdose. The shocking news of Perry’s death from a drug overdose still resonates, as fresh legal updates emerge approximately two years after the well-loved actor’s unfortunate demise. Most recognized for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, Perry was discovered unconscious in his Los Angeles residence in October 2023. Recent news indicates that the doctor who supplied him with ketamine is likely to plead guilty.

Here are all the details.

Matthew Perry’s doctor pleads guilty

In a major legal move, it was revealed on Monday that Matthew Perry’s doctor, Salvador Plasencia, intends to admit guilt for four felony charges related to distributing ketamine. This California-based medical professional, who authorities claim supplied Perry with the drug during the time leading up to his passing, is set to make his formal admission of guilt in the near future. If found guilty, Plasencia could face a maximum prison sentence of 40 years in a federal penitentiary.

54-year-old Perry, known for his open struggles with addiction and depression, tragically passed away suddenly, leading to numerous probes. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner headed the initial investigation and concluded that ketamine overdose was the cause of Matthew Perry’s demise. Later, in 2024, the LAPD assumed control of the investigation to ascertain how Perry obtained the substance in such large amounts.

Moreover, text conversations uncovered during the investigation show worrying conduct. In a message to Dr. Mark Chavez, who has already confessed, it appears that Matthew Perry’s doctor, Plasencia, ridiculed him, referring to him as a “fool” and guessing how much he might pay for the drugs. These texts proved crucial in building the case against them. (via BBC)

Furthermore, investigators have pinpointed Plasencia and an unnamed woman as key suspects in their case. Additionally, there are three other defendants, one of whom is Dr. Chavez, who have already confessed and chosen to help with the investigation. As of now, no statements have been released by Plasencia’s legal team.

The trial is scheduled for August this year.
