Actor Matthew Lillard, famous for his roles in Scream and Scooby-Doo, is set for a momentous year with the releases of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and Scream 7. ComingSoon recently interviewed Lillard about his latest venture, Quest End Druid whiskey, as well as the new Fam Club he just introduced. The interview also touched upon Lillard’s surprising return to Scream and how Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is expected to take things to a new level.
In continuation with the continued success of their fantasy and gaming-themed brand, Quest’s End Whiskey, the enthusiast-focused spirits company Find Familiar Spirits is revealing a new chapter: Quest’s End Druid. This exclusive, limited-edition spirit will be released on May 1, 2025. For Season Two, Quest’s End has enhanced its gameplay with a special Fam Club community membership and an upcoming High Rollers Guild lineup that encompasses Druid, as well as Monk, Wizard, and Revenant. Co-founder of the company, Matthew Lillard, believes that spring – symbolizing rebirth and change – is the ideal time to debut Quest’s End Druid, according to the official announcement.
Drawing inspiration from the mystical magic of the forest, Master Blender Molly Troupe crafted the Druid bourbon, characterized by robust flavors of vanilla and caramel from four grains. She then skillfully combined it with a savory rye whiskey, and aged it in barrels previously used for rum and rouge vermouth, accentuating delightful green and herbal tones.
Tyler Treese: Hey Matthew, it’s great to see you starting the second season of your magical-themed liquor collection with the Quest’s End Druid whiskey! Can you give us a sneak peek of what we might find in this bottle?
Matthew Lillard: Isn’t the whiskey going to be stored with various items, correct? Each year, we construct every bottle according to the storyline. For those who may not be aware, each bottle is a continuation of an overarching tale that spans 16 distinct releases. Each bottle represents a new installment in this narrative, yet it also introduces a fresh liquid, influenced by the character’s development, class, or what our master blender interprets from the storyline.
This year, instead of sticking solely with Kentucky Bourbon, we’re venturing into new territories. There’s a lot of intriguing work going on, and this specific mix hails from the Pacific Northwest. It has a refreshing herbal flavor that is truly delightful.
It’s been truly enjoyable conducting this experiment for you. Your initial season featured characters like Paladin, Rogue, and Dragon, which were quite successful for you. I’m curious to know what has been the most fulfilling aspect of blending your passions for storytelling and spirits?
Indeed, I’ll share with you an amusing detail. We’ve recently unveiled a novel concept named Fam Club. Essentially, it serves as a solution for customers seeking ways to save money, given our higher-end pricing. Moreover, it provides opportunities to interact with our communities. A frequent request we received was, “We desire to connect with other individuals within our customer base.
We’ve recently unveiled something exciting – it’s called Fam Club! Sales are skyrocketing, and it costs $50 per month. Members gain access to Discord, exclusive behind-the-scenes events such as tastings and parties, plus unique opportunities to connect with fellow spirit enthusiasts. Additionally, members receive special discounts. I’m thrilled that our vision of creating a spirit company centered around community is finally taking off, and this new phase is proving to be a success!
It’s an incredibly thrilling moment for your career too! Your return to Scream is quite remarkable because, in many ways, you made it happen. You kept expressing your wish to come back, saying ‘I would love to come back.’ So, can you tell us about your feelings when you finally received the call confirming that it was indeed going to happen after so many years?
Matthew Lillard: To be completely honest, I was genuinely thrilled about it. I had plenty of questions for Kevin when he contacted me. I’m absolutely thrilled, really overjoyed to return. I hope the fans are pleased. I hope people are eager to see me, and all I can say is that I just hope I don’t mess it up. You know, I believe people will adore it. Furthermore, I think the script is excellent. I think the cast is superb, so I’m really optimistic that it will be a hit.
Absolutely. It appears that everything is being handled correctly. To put it simply, there’s no one better suited for the job than Kevin Williamson. He was the writer for the first two “Scream” movies and now he’s directing. So you could rest assured that you were in capable hands. I must say, working with him again was a delightful experience. How about you?
Oh, fantastic! It feels like reuniting with long-lost friends, doesn’t it? And guess who’s on set now? None other than Neve Campbell! Working with her again is a treat. I have this strong feeling that… well, I believe the storyline will carry on, and fans are going to be thrilled about it. It seems to me that we’re creating something reminiscent of classic Scream, which I think fans will cherish and value.
Last week I had a chat with David Arquette, and he shared his feelings of being a little let down because the casting announcement leaked prematurely, as it was intended to be a surprise. Did that happen to you too?
Indeed, it was initially intended to keep me under wraps until the trailer release. However, considering the buzz surrounding “Scream 7” production, it became clear that maintaining secrecy about my involvement would’ve been challenging. Infiltration and extraction would have proven quite difficult. Eventually, we decided to share the news ourselves before any leaks could occur. So, things unfolded as they were bound to. It’s all part of modern technology, and I don’t believe anyone was excessively taken aback. To put it simply, the cat was already out of the bag.
As a passionate gamer and admirer of art, I’m deeply saddened by the recent passing of David Lynch. Working alongside him on Twin Peaks: The Return was an extraordinary experience. He truly is a masterful storyteller, one of the greats in American cinema, leaving an indelible mark on our collective consciousness.
It’s striking to note that his charisma was undeniably present, a quality often emphasized in meditation as something to follow. I believe David possessed this trait naturally and had instances that most people could relate to. Indeed, he was unpredictable at times, but isn’t everyone?
He exuded an infectious joy and was an exceptional individual, both as a person and an artist. Collaborating with him was a privilege since he was a renowned figure in the film industry, making the experience truly special, like receiving a valuable gift.
Actors are fortunate to land one memorable role in their career, but it seems like you’ve managed to secure multiple iconic roles throughout each decade. What has been your secret in garnering such a wide range of fans from diverse backgrounds? Some people recall you from the Scream series, while others recognize you as the voice behind Shaggy. How has that unique experience been for you, transitioning between different fan bases? It’s fascinating to see how various milestones define your career for different groups of people.
Matthew Lillard: Actually, it’s just good fortune. Discovering a game like Five Nights at Freddy’s isn’t something you expect to happen twice. Yet, here comes another captivating treasure and a fanbase that is as passionate as any I’ve encountered.
To be clear, I’m fully aware of my good fortune. As an actor and as an individual, I recognize the luck that plays a significant role in my life. In truth, one moment I could find myself without work, while the next, I might land these extraordinary roles. Therefore, I can’t stress enough the importance of luck in this equation.
Sometimes, the luck of being chosen for a role feels like an unexpected gift, even if it’s in films that have turned out to be less than stellar. Yet, occasionally, I find myself on a delightful adventure, a brief moment of pleasure amidst the not-so-great roles.
You brought up the topic of Five Nights. It’s exciting that there’s a new installment on the way, given its massive success in the past. When a game becomes a generational hit like that, they typically invest a significant amount of resources into it. So, are we looking at an expansion of all aspects for this sequel? Essentially, bigger and better things?
It seems like the storytelling quality has significantly improved without a huge increase in our budget. Despite big-budget movies like those worth $250 million, $300 million, even $500 million existing, we’re still very much an indie horror production. The costs of productions like Avengers are hard to fathom, but we definitely aren’t in that league.
In my opinion, the filmmaker seemed to learn from the initial release, and Scott, being an experienced storyteller, appeared to have taken audience feedback into account. This is something he does exceptionally well, as he knows his audience inside out. As a result, I believe the script for this new version might include more shock moments or action sequences. However, I’m not here to confirm or deny that.
I firmly believe that the audience will greatly enjoy the upcoming film, and I’m certain their enthusiasm will reach new heights by December.
Appreciate Matthew Lillard for chatting with me about Quest’s End Druid whiskey, Scream 7, and other fascinating topics.
