Actor Matthew Lawrence from Boy Meets World recently disclosed some behind-the-scenes challenges they encountered during the making of the 2000 movie Boltneck, particularly when working alongside Ryan Reynolds, who later became famous as Deadpool and Wolverine. In the horror comedy, both actors shared screen time, but unfortunately, it failed to impress audiences at the box office. Here’s what Lawrence recounted about Reynolds’ on-set behavior during the filming of Boltneck.
Matthew Lawrence talks about Ryan Reynolds’ behavior on Boltneck’s set
More recently, Matthew Lawrence featured on the Brotherly Love podcast, where he reminisced about collaborating with Ryan Reynolds on the film “Boltneck,” directed by Mitch Marcus.
While delving into the ongoing Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni dispute, Lawrence instead chose to talk about Reynolds. He characterized him as a “complete slob” in his younger years. He elaborated further, “The crew had quite the challenge managing young Ryan.
Back when I was on the Boltneck set, I noticed that Ryan wasn’t quite feeling the vibe since he was new to this filmmaking gig. In hindsight, his behavior mirrored what Lawrence described: he’d often wander off, seemingly eager to freestyle. The producers weren’t too thrilled about this and even had a chat with him, saying something like, “Ryan, this isn’t a Jim Carrey impression contest. We hired you for your unique talent, not an imitation. You need to bring your own A-game here.” Ryan, however, seemed to bristle at the guidance and retorted, “I’m doing my thing.
As a devoted fan, I learned from Matthew Lawrence that the producers attributed Boltneck’s downfall to none other than Ryan Reynolds. He shared that on set, they seemed to label him as a “major source of tension.” Going a step further, Reynolds disclosed that the producers expressed, “To tell you the truth, I’m not even angry at Ryan in the sense that he stayed true to himself, because he was attempting his signature Deadpool antics!
