What happens in the Dept. Q trailer?
As a fan, I’m excited to delve into the world of Goode’s Morck, a remarkable detective with a rather prickly relationship with his colleagues, thanks to his skeptical demeanor. In this upcoming series, he finds himself spearheading a cold case unit, where he encounters other misfits like him. Accompanying Goode on this journey are Chloe Pirrie (known from Under The Banner of Heaven and The Queen’s Gambit), Alexej Manvelov (recognized from Jack Ryan and Top Dog), Kelly Macdonald (a familiar face from Line of Duty and Operation Mincemeat), Leah Byrne (Call The Midwife regular), and many more.
The nine-episode series Dept. Q was created and directed by screenwriter Scott Frank (Out of Sight, Logan), who received an Oscar nomination. This work is adapted from Jussi Adler-Olsen’s Danish crime novel series set in the Nordic noir genre. After the acclaimed miniseries The Queen’s Gambit, this project represents Scott Frank’s latest partnership with the streaming service. Rob Bullock and Andy Harries are also executive producers of this production.
Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck, while exceptionally skilled in his work, has a reputation as a difficult coworker within the Edinburgh police force due to his biting sarcasm. Following an incident where a young officer is killed and his partner is left paralyzed, he finds himself relegated to the department basement, heading the newly established cold case unit known as Department Q. This department serves as a public relations ploy, masking the inefficiencies of an underfunded police force eager for him to leave. However, somewhat unintentionally, Morck gathers a group of misfits, each with something to prove. When the cold case of a missing high-ranking civil servant begins to rekindle, Morck finds himself back in his element, shaking up systems and persistently pushing for answers.
