Ant-Man star Corey Stoll has joined the cast of Apple Original Films’ Matchbox.
Stoll gained recognition for portraying Darren Cross/Yellowjacket/M.O.D.O.K in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man movies, as well as Peter Russo in Netflix’s House of Cards and Bobby Axelrod in Showtime’s Billions.
Presently, as reported by Deadline, Stoll is set to portray an unspecified role in “Matchbox”, a movie based on Mattel’s Matchbox toy vehicle brand.
What else do we know about Apple’s Matchbox movie?
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Matchbox is described as an action-packed, globe-trotting journey that revolves around a band of childhood companions who unite to prevent a catastrophic global event while rekindling their friendship in the process. Additional story specifics are being kept confidential at this time.
Joining Stoll, Matchbox – a production from Skydance and Mattel Films – will feature a talented cast including John Cena (known for Peacemaker and Fast X), Jessica Biel (renowned for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Blade: Trinity), Sam Richardson (Werewolves Within, Detroiters), Teyonah Parris (The Marvels and They Cloned Tyrone), Arturo Castro (Broad City), and Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead).
This movie is helmed by Sam Hargrave, a director recognized for his work on the 2020 film Extraction and its 2023 sequel, Extraction 2. The screenplay was penned by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper, while production duties are handled by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Robbie Brenner, and Jules Daly.
Additionally, Stoll has appeared in various series including NCIS, Law & Order: Los Angeles, The Strain, Girls, The Deuce, Transatlantic, among others.
Among the many blockbusters I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of, you’ll find gems like “Lucky Number Slevin” from 2006, “Salt” in 2010, “The Bourne Legacy” and “Non-Stop” both from 2012, “This Is Where I Leave You” and “Black Mass” in 2014, “First Man” in 2018, “The Report” in 2019, “The Many Saints of Newark” and “West Side Stop” in 2021, and “Rebel Moon” in 2023. Recently, I lent my voice to Lex Luthor in “Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three,” which was released in 2024.
A release date for Matchbox has not yet been announced by Apple Original Films.
