As a seasoned gamer with a deep appreciation for both the world of toys and cinema, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about Jessica Biel potentially joining John Cena in the upcoming Matchbox movie. With her extensive experience in high-profile projects ranging from family dramas to horror remakes, and even limited series that earned her award nominations, there’s no denying she can bring a compelling performance to this unique project.
It has been announced that the lineup for the upcoming film based on the iconic Matchbox brand, titled “The Matchbox Movie“, could see the addition of actress Jessica Biel, as she is in discussions to join forces with John Cena on this exciting project.
In the upcoming film, Biel is set to join Cena, who was previously cast for this project earlier in 2021, with the script penned by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper. As its title hints, the story draws inspiration from the renowned die-cast toy vehicle series from Mattel, a real-life icon.
Biel gained prominence during the late 90s to early 2000s, primarily known for her role in the popular family drama series “7th Heaven”. Following this success, she has been part of several notable productions such as a remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Hitchcock (2012) and others.
2017 saw her playing a leading role in the USA Network’s mini-series “The Sinner.” This performance gained her a nod for both the Golden Globe Awards and the Emmys.
What do we know about the Matchbox movie?
The upcoming Matchbox movie, based on the popular toy brand, will be helmed by Sam Hargrave, renowned for directing Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction films. Originating from automotive expert Jack Odell in 1953 for Lesney Products, Matchbox was eventually acquired by Mattel in 1997. The screenplay for this film is a collaboration between David Coggeshall (The Family Plan) and Jonathan Tropper (The Adam Project). This production comes from Apple Original Films, Skydance, and Mattel Films, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and Robbie Brenner as the producers.
Matchbox toys have held immense cultural significance for almost 70 years, sparking the creativity of countless children by blending their real-world observations with their fantasies. As we embark on this new venture, announced in 2022, we’re excited to collaborate with Skydance Media to create a film that captures the same imaginative essence of this iconic Mattel brand and appeals to fans across generations,” Brenner stated earlier. “We anticipate crafting a tale for the big screen that reflects the spirit of this cherished toy line and brings joy to audiences of all ages.
