Amazon Studios, in collaboration with MGM Studios, have added two new cast members to the lineup for Mattel Films’ eagerly awaited Masters of the Universe movie. British actors James Purefoy, known for his role in ‘The Veil,’ and Charlotte Riley, recognized from ‘Peaky Blinders,’ will play King Randor and Queen Marlena, who are He-Man’s parents. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 5, 2026.
The story revolves around 10-year-old Prince Adam who accidentally landed on Earth in a spaceship, losing his magical Sword of Power – his only connection to his home planet Eternia. Years later, he locates the sword and gets transported back through space. Now, Prince Adam must travel across galaxies to protect his native planet from the malevolent forces led by Skeletor. To vanquish such a formidable foe, however, Prince Adam must first decipher the enigmas of his past and transform into He-Man, the strongest being in the cosmos!
Who will lead the Masters of the Universe movie?
In this updated version, the cast for Masters of the Universe will be spearheaded by Nicholas Galitzine (previously credited as Bottoms), who takes on the role of He-Man, Camila Mendes (known for Riverdale) steps into the character of Teela, Alison Brie (from Community) plays the part of Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba (familiar from Thor) portrays Man-At-Arms, Morena Baccarin (Deadpool) brings The Sorceress to life, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Vikings: Valhalla) embodies Malcolm/Fisto, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Game of Thrones) assumes the character of Goat Man, Sam C. Wilson takes on Trap Jaw, and Kojo Attah portrays Tri-Klops.
The movie is being directed by Travis Knight, who worked on the screenplay along with Chris Butler. The script originated from an early draft penned by David Callaham and the Nee brothers (Aaron and Adam). Specifics about the plot and characters of this upcoming live-action adaptation are yet to be revealed. This production is a collaboration between Escape Artists and Mattel Films, with Robbie Brenner, Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch serving as producers.
