The live-action Masters of the Universe movie has added two new cast members.
As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that yours truly, Travis Knight, is diving headfirst into the creation of a live-action rendition of Masters of the Universe for Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel! The talented Nicholas Galitzine has been tapped to bring our beloved He-Man to life on the big screen, inspired by the iconic 1980s cartoon series and toy line. Can’t wait to see it unfold!
Who has joined the cast of Masters of the Universe?
In simpler terms, Morena Baccarin will portray The Sorceress and Johannes Haukur Johannesson has been selected to play Malcolm/Fisto, who was originally a villain but becomes a hero in Masters of the Universe.

Actress Morena Baccarin and actor Johannes Haukur Johannesson have been added to the cast of the forthcoming movie “Masters of the Universe.” They will play characters The Sorceress and Fisto, respectively.

Baccarin is particularly recognized for her role as Vanessa in the Marvel’s Deadpool series. She has also portrayed Adria in Stargate SG-1 and Inara Serra in Firefly. Furthermore, she’s appeared on various TV shows including Homeland, The Mentalist, The Flash, Gotham, A Series of Unfortunate Events, among others.
Johansson has appeared in episodes from Game of Thrones, Vikings: Valhalla, Succession, and The Witcher. His list of films includes Atomic Blonde (2017), The Sisters Brothers (2018), Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020), Captain America: Brave New World (2025), among others.
In this version of Masters of the Universe, we have Camila Mendes playing Teela, Alison Brie taking on the role of Evil-Lyn, Jared Leto stepping into Skeletor’s shoes, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson bringing Trap Jaw to life, Hafthor Bjornsson embodying Goat Man, and Kojo Attah portraying Tri-Klops.
At present, specific details about the plot are being kept confidential. The screenplay is penned by Chris Butler, although earlier versions were developed by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee. Travis Knight’s filmography boasts Kubo and the Two Strings from 2016, Bumblebee in 2018, and Wildwood slated for release in 2025.
Masters of the Universe currently has a June 5, 2026, release date.
