In a fusion of sci-fi and fantasy genres, Masters of the Universe continues to be a potent force in pop culture, having lasted for four decades. With animations, comics, and an upcoming movie on the horizon, enthusiasts of He-Man and She-Ra have been treated to numerous adaptations. Now, the character Andra, who gained popularity in the 2021 Revelations series, is getting her own standalone comic issue.
The series “Masters of the Universe” – titled “Andra” – takes place between the initial and subsequent seasons of the latest animated rendition. Authored by Tiffany Smith, an actor who lent her voice to Andra in the show, this narrative follows Andra as she grapples with her new position as Man-At-Arms of Eternia. But trouble looms when Count Marzo, a malevolent sorcerer, challenges her and the cadets under her command.
This one-off comic showcases art from Eisner Award-winning artist Adriana Melo. Additionally, “Masters of the Universe: Andra” will offer variant cover illustrations by Skylar Patridge and Nate Baertsch. ComingSoon.net is thrilled to unveil the Nate Baertsch cover (shown below) as an exclusive preview.
Andra’s roots in the Masters of the Universe comics
Returning to the realm he once guarded, the latest Man-At-Arms finds an unusual sense of familiarity with Andra. Although she’s currently recognized from her animated versions, Andra initially made her debut as a comic book character. The original version of Andra first appeared in issue #9 of Masters of the Universe comic series by Star Comics back in 1987. She was presented as a childhood companion of Teela who had recently been promoted to Lieutenant within Eternia’s army.
Andra made her debut in a significant role, which turned out to be her biggest one yet. Throughout the storyline, she primarily focused on shielding Prince Adam during a hostile attack and unintentionally prevented him from transforming into He-Man. Later, she appeared twice more alongside Teela before the series ended its run. Afterward, Andra was only mentioned in the biography of the villain Karg on the back of his 2018 action figure. It is said that Karg developed an infatuation with her, which eventually led to him being sent to Prison Starr.
Masters of the Universe: Andra #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on September 17, 2025.
