Massive Fire Severely Damages Main Stage of Tomorrowland 2025 Days Before Opening

Summary

  • A massive fire destroyed most of Tomorrowland’s main stage days before opening
  • No injuries occurred, and staff were safely evacuated; the cause is under investigation
  • Despite severe damage, the festival will proceed without a main stage, starting July 18

A large fire swept through the central stage at the Tomorrowland music festival, only a few days before its initial weekend was set to begin.

According to reports from Belgium’s public broadcaster VRT, as confirmed by CNN, a massive fire nearly completely destroyed the main stage at a festival. The incident led to the evacuation of around 1,000 staff members on the scene. At this point, the cause of the fire remains undiscovered. It is important to note that no attendees were present during the event.

The organizers assured everyone in a statement that, despite the “extensive damage” to the stage, nobody was hurt. They went on to say that DreamVille (the campsite) would open as scheduled tomorrow (July 17th) and be fully prepared for all visitors. All Global Journey events in Brussels and Antwerp will proceed as planned. The organizers are working diligently to address any issues arising during the festival weekend (Friday through Sunday).

Debby Wilmsen, the press liaison and spokesperson for Tomorrowland, expressed that the crew was deeply saddened by the incident, given the “love and dedication” and countless hours they invested in constructing the stage. She added, “Tomorrow, approximately 38,000 festival attendees will gather at DreamVille, our campsite. We’re excited for it and eager to make it an exceptional event.” However, she mentioned that there won’t be a main stage this year. Yet, she hinted at potential alternative plans, but remained tight-lipped about the details for now.

Every summer, the bustling electronic dance music festival occurs in the quaint Belgian town of Boom. Local resident Morgan Hermans shared with CNN that the sound of fireworks made her peek outside, and she was startled to witness “a large cloud of fireworks and smoke right beside us.” She further explained, “This event is among the most significant ones in our entire calendar year. Our town being quite small, it’s amazing to see visitors from all over the globe. It’s insane, yet exhilarating! For a brief moment, everyone in Boom was slightly apprehensive.

The planned continuation of Tomorrowland happens next week, starting with Weekend One from the 18th to the 20th of July, followed by Weekend Two from the 25th to the 27th.
