Massive Black Myth: Wukong hype sells out PS5s everywhere in China

As a long-time gaming enthusiast who’s been following the Chinese gaming scene for years, I must say that Black Myth: Wukong has truly taken me by surprise! The sheer scale of its impact is unprecedented, especially considering China’s reputation for free-to-play gacha games.

As a long-time gaming enthusiast who grew up playing action games, I must say that Black Myth: Wukong has been one of the most exciting releases of the year for me. Not only did it shatter Steam player records, but its launch also caused PS5 consoles to fly off the shelves in China. As someone who has seen many games come and go, I can confidently say that Black Myth: Wukong is a game that truly stands out from the crowd. Its fast-paced action and immersive world have captured the hearts of gamers around the world, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this title.

Black Myth: Wukong sells out PS5s

According to the classic Chinese story “Journey to the West,” Game Science’s AAA version of the novel has been incredibly successful in China. This popularity has led to an immediate sell-out of PlayStation 5 consoles in the region following its release.

According to games analyst Daniel Camilo, there’s been an infectious trend of PS5 purchases in China following its release. Moreover, the game’s debut has triggered an enormous spike in sales of ready-to-use PCs and related hardware like graphics cards (GPUs).

In the bustling Huaqiangbei market of Shenzhen, recognized as the world’s biggest electronic market, it’s evident that sales are skyrocketing, largely due to the impact of Wukong, according to Camilo.

In China, physical retail commerce for gaming is scarcely present. Instead, it’s largely conducted online through e-commerce platforms. Even brick-and-mortar stores like those found in Huaqiangbei also maintain digital storefronts, where the majority of their sales occur.

As a gamer, I can’t help but notice the surge in PS5 sales here in China, all thanks to the launch of Black Myth Wukong. It’s like a gaming fever has swept across the country, and even those who typically don’t care about gaming are getting caught up in it! They’re rushing out to buy consoles just to get their hands on this highly anticipated game. What an exciting time for gamers in China!

Because of a significant surge in consumer interest, retailers in China are contemplating an increase in the cost of PlayStation 5 consoles. Prices may vary by model, potentially rising from 2,000 Yuan to as high as 4,000 Yuan.

A huge win for China

While many see the Chinese games industry as a hub for free-to-play gacha games, Black Myth: Wukong proves China can see success from huge single-player games. With Black Myth as a blueprint, we could start seeing more AAA experiences coming out of China.
