Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is still spectacular, if imperfect, on PC

The highly anticipated game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, has now made its debut on PC platforms such as Steam and Epic Games Store. Being a dedicated admirer of Insomniac Games’ upcoming sequel in 2023, I eagerly jumped at the chance to revisit the continuing tale of Peter Parker and Miles Morales. Though I must admit that my preference leans towards the PS5 version, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC remains a commendable port from PlayStation Studios.

In the start of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we have an impressive scene where two masked vigilantes engage Sandman in aerial combat over New York City. This action-packed sequence not only sets the stage for the story, but also demonstrates the game’s visual prowess when played on a top-tier PC. The game offers options for ray tracing, NVIDIA DLSS, and AMD FSR, which can be maximized to produce stunning graphics.

This game offers Ultra wide screen compatibility, providing breathtaking views as I glided through the cityscape or gazed upon the skyline from a rooftop. However, your experience may differ significantly based on your computer’s specifications. Keep in mind that the PS5 is a powerful device, so surpassing the minimum requirements is necessary to match or even exceed the performance witnessed on Sony’s console.

Playing Spider-Man 2 on PC offered me some additional perks that I didn’t have when I first played it on PS5. For one, I can use the Xbox Series X controller, which is more comfortable and works seamlessly during button prompts. Another benefit is the game’s portability due to its Steam Deck compatibility, although there are noticeable graphical compromises when playing on Valve’s handheld PC.

During my immersion back into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, there were some minor glitches that occasionally interrupted the smooth gameplay. These hiccups were mainly evident in certain scenes where textures would load slowly or a character’s model might exhibit an unusual coloration. Thankfully, these issues were infrequent, but they were hard to miss when they occurred.

Essentially, the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man is an exceptional video game, and making this exceptional game available on more platforms can only be a positive thing. In my review from 2023, I couldn’t help but praise it as a remarkable achievement in gaming – one that manages to enhance nearly every aspect of its predecessors without succumbing to its own grandeur.
