Longtime fans of the X-Men will recognize “New X-Men” as a label that either refers to a new group of mutants or stories penned by writer Grant Morrison. Marvel Snap’s upcoming season is honoring both aspects with its next installment, which introduces the New X-Men into Second Dinner’s ongoing digital trading card game.
Stepping into the Marvel Snap’s New X-Men season, I find myself leading the charge as Esme Cuckoo, a mutant not so well-known yet packing quite a punch. Comic aficionados might recognize her as one of Emma Frost’s Stepford Cuckoos from Morrison’s New X-Men era.
For just 3 resources, she’s got the power to clone a card from my deck and set its strength at 3/4. The kicker? If that card happens to be a heavy hitter like Iron Man or Gorr the God Butcher, the game could quickly take a turn for the worse!
There’s more, though! Here are the other cards coming to Marvel Snap for the New X-Men season:
- (2) Surge (2) – On Reveal: Give the top card of your deck -1 Cost and +1 Power. After you play it, repeat this ability.
- (3) Prodigy (4) – On Reveal: If this is in the back row, copy the text of the card in front of it.
- (2) Elixir (3) – On Reveal: One of your cards destroyed last turn gets revived here.
- (2) Xorn (3) – After ANY 3 or 4-Cost card is played here, move it to another location.
Two additional spots are being added to the Marvel Snap game rotation. The Pit of Exile prohibits the play of cards that have a Power level of 10 or more, while Genosha eliminates all but the strongest card belonging to each player after Turn 5.
In this upcoming Marvel Snap season, the game will run on its updated economic system for the first time in full. Last week, a new update was rolled out, replacing Spotlight Caches with a more comprehensive Card Shop. For players who haven’t logged into the game yet, Spotlight Keys have been swapped for Collector Tokens, enabling users to buy specific Series Card Packs that have a higher chance of containing any missing card from their collection.
