As a seasoned Marvel Snap gamer with countless hours spent navigating the cosmic battlefield, I must say, this August 20, 2024 update has certainly shaken things up! The removal of Lamentis-1 and The Peak might be a relief to some, but as a fan of their unique mechanics, I’ll miss them dearly.
In Marvel Snap, the patches usually target specific cards, either their power level, cost, or effect. However, this game isn’t just about playing cards at various locations; sometimes, it’s necessary to manage the locations themselves. That’s what the August 20, 2024 patch is all about – focusing on the adjustments made to certain Marvel Snap locations by Second Dinner, with some being revised and others being eliminated altogether.
Marvel Snap August 20, 2024 update patch notes
The following was posted to the Marvel Snap website:
Location Removal: Lamentis-1 and The Peak
As a passionate enthusiast, I’ve noticed that quite a few players weren’t fond of the experiences these locales offered, even when they were seldom encountered. Consequently, we’ve chosen to temporarily remove them from service as we brainstorm ways to enhance them.
Location Appearance Change: District X
As a devoted fan, I’ve noticed that District X was quite polarizing. For seasoned players like me, it was disheartening not to utilize the decks we’ve carefully crafted. However, for newcomers still exploring the vast array of cards, it offered an intriguing glimpse into playing with ones they don’t possess yet. To cater to both groups, District X will no longer be a regular feature in most players’ games, but will continue to appear for those just starting their MARVEL SNAP adventure.
Location Redesign: Weirdworld
- [Old] Both players draw from their opponent’s decks.
- [New] Draw 2 cards from your opponent’s deck.
Weirdworld faced a similar issue with keeping players from playing with their own decks. Many people enjoyed trying to use their opponent’s cards, but didn’t enjoy losing the chance to use their own strategies. So now you can use both!
Location Redesign: Sandbar
- [Old] Cards with abilities can’t be played here.
- [New] Cards that didn’t start in your deck cost 1 more. (max 6)
As a gamer, I recall taking Sandbar out of play due to its limited interaction with cards, making it less engaging. Now, we’ve discovered a fresh role for it. In our game, we enjoy having locations that create unexpected challenges for players, forcing them to adapt their strategies. With the removal of locations hindering deck usage, we would have lacked interactive elements like Thanos and Arishem adding extra cards to decks or Kate Bishop stacking them in hand.
In the August 20, 2024 update, you’ll notice modifications in the text of Shadow King, Moon Knight, and Baron Zemo characters, with their core functionality remaining unchanged but featuring fresh wording. Additionally, Alliances have undergone adjustments to introduce a Deck Share option and revised Bounties. We’ll stay vigilant regarding developments in Marvel Snap, so remember to check back on Shacknews for important updates.
