As a seasoned Marvel fan with a soft spot for time-travel narratives and a knack for strategic gaming, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming launch of Marvel Rivals! With Doom’s Rise setting the stage for this grand adventure, it feels like I’ve been transported straight into a comic book.
In a few weeks, Marvel Rivals is set to debut and it seems that NetEase Games has exciting plans for the game beyond its initial release. Last Friday, Creative Director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen revealed what players can anticipate in the coming days. This includes the game’s first season, known as Doom’s Rise.
According to its title, the game “Doom’s Rise” delves into the consequences of Doctor Doom unleashing the Timestream Entanglement, which forms the basis for the Marvel Rivals concept. Players will engage in combat as they traverse through the game’s four unique time-based realms: 2099, the Present, Mosaic, and Collapsing.
Yuen also announced the ambitious content plans for this opening season. It will include:
- 33 heroes
- 8 maps for Quick Match and Competitive modes
- 1 Conquest map
- 1 all-new Practice Range
The first season is set to commence in January, as Yuen clarifies. Each season will span a period of three months and will bring numerous fresh elements such as new characters, battlefields, Team-Up Abilities, and possibly novel game modes. This season will also mark the start of Battle Passes, although Doom’s Rise will only offer half a Battle Pass due to its shorter duration.
The last thing to note is that Yuen teased one final hero reveal for the days prior to Marvel Rivals’ official launch. The only hint he offered is that this character will synergize specifically well with Hulk, the first hero that started the development team’s journey. Look for Marvel Rivals to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on December 6 with every character available to play at launch.
