As a dedicated follower of the South Indian cinema scene and a fan of the esteemed Rao Ramesh, I must say that the recent digital release of “Maruthi Nagar Subramanyam” on Aha has been a delightful addition to my viewing list. The film, with its compelling narrative about the struggles of unemployment and the unexpected windfall of wealth, is a testament to the versatility of our veteran actor, Rao Ramesh.
As a dedicated follower, I’m thrilled to share that the movie featuring Maruthi Nagar Subramanyam, starring Rao Ramesh, hit the big screen on August 23rd. Skillfully directed by Lakshman Karya, it had a good run in theaters. Now, this film has made its digital premiere and is available for streaming on various OTT platforms.
Today, September 20, Maruthi Nagar Subramanyam debuted on the OTT platform Aha. It’s said that the streaming service paid a significant amount for the digital rights to the movie, though the exact figure remains undisclosed. Interestingly, the film was produced with an estimated budget of around Rs 4 crore.

The story “Maruthi Nagar Subramanyam” centers on Subramanyam, a man grappling with unemployment struggles. Yet, fate takes an unexpected twist when he finds 10 lakh rupees mysteriously appearing in his bank account. Blissfully unaware of the source, he spends the money recklessly, eventually encountering some unfortunate repercussions.

This family-oriented comedy was directed by Lakshman Karya. Besides Rao Ramesh, the movie features performers such as Ramya Pasupuleti, Indraja, Ajay, Annapurnamma, Ankith Koyya, and many more talented individuals.
Currently, Rao Ramesh stands among the highest-paid character artists within the realm of South Indian cinema. During an interview with Great Andhra, he disclosed that his daily income surpasses Rs 4.5 lakh. He further stated, “Rs 4.5 lakh is a modest amount. I’ve earned more than that per day, all in legitimate money with taxes duly paid on every penny.
Additionally, he mentioned a common trend in the Telugu film industry where character actors often receive lower wages. However, he has consistently managed to secure higher pay by negotiating effectively within the industry. He humorously noted that if you ask for 100 rupees, they often start bargaining down to 50.
In addition to sharing that his pay changes for each movie he takes on, Rao Ramesh disclosed a surprising fact: non-industry individuals (often referred to as outsiders) make two to three times more than him. He went on to express his frustration that despite this disparity, there’s little attention given to their earnings in the media.
