Martin Scorsese Filming Concert Movie This Week Paying Tribute to Robbie Robertson

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of music and movies, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming tribute concert film, “Life Is A Carnival: A Musical Celebration Of Robbie Robertson”. Having grown up watching The Last Waltz and marveling at Scorsese’s masterful direction, it’s a dream come true to witness the legendary filmmaker returning to helm another concert for this extraordinary musician.

Legendary director Martin Scorsese is slated to helm a tribute concert film for musician Robbie Robertson. The forthcoming event, titled “Life Is a Carnival: A Musical Homage to Robbie Robertson,” promises to be a grand celebration of his music.

This Thursday evening, Scorsese will oversee the filming of a tribute concert. Previously, he’s directed concert films for the late musician, including “The Last Waltz,” released in 1978. That was also Robbie Robertson’s final concert with The Band.

Robertson was often involved with the soundtracks of both movies and TV shows, regularly working alongside Scorsese. In many of Scorsese’s films, such as Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, The Color of Money, Casino, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and The Irishman, he either functioned as a music advisor or composer.

In their most recent joint project, it was a 2023 Western crime drama titled “Killers of the Flower Moon” where they worked together with Scorsese.

Who are the artists involved in Life Is A Carnival: A Musical Celebration Of Robbie Robertson?

According to Variety’s report, the artists set to perform at the upcoming show on Thursday at the Kia Forum are Trey Anastasio, Warren Haynes, Bruce Hornsby, Eric Church, Eric Clapton, Jim James, Daniel Lanois, Taj Mahal, Robert Randolph, Nathaniel Rateliff, Van Morrison, Margo Price, Lucinda Williams, Mavis Staples, Bobby Weir, and Allison Russell. Furthermore, the house band for this event will include Ryan Bingham, Jamey Johnson, Mike Campbell, John Medeski, Dave Malone, among others.

Apart from being the director of the concert film, Scorsese is also a co-executive producer for the event, joined by Jared Levine, Keith Wortman, and Scooter Weintraub in this role.

Prior to launching a solo career, Robertson served as Bob Dylan’s lead guitarist, was also a guitarist and songwriter for The Band, and he sadly passed away on August 9, 2023, at the venerable age of 80.
