Marlee Matlin’s documentary “Not Alone Anymore” debuted at the Sundance Film Festival on Thursday. This documentary offers insights into Matlin’s career in entertainment and her life off-screen. During a two-year relationship with Hurt, Matlin claims that Hurt abused her. At the time of filming Children of a Lesser God, Matlin was 19 years old while Hurt was 35.

1985 saw Hurt take home the Best Actor Academy Award for “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” The following year, it was an honor to be the one handing over the Oscar to Marlee Matlin. Looking back on that night, as I recalled in a documentary, I felt a chill up my spine as I climbed the stairs. The reason? I could sense his displeasure. Passed away in March 2022, at the age of 71, following difficulties from advanced prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.
