As a long-time fan who has followed the NCIS franchise since its inception, I can barely contain my excitement! After years of anticipation and speculation, it seems that Mark Harmon will finally grace our screens once more – albeit not in the way we initially expected.
Fans of the NCIS franchise have longed for Mark Harmon to appear on the original show for years. Now, their wish is coming true! Although, it won’t be on the main series as fans had hoped since he departed during season 19 of NCIS.
The eagerly awaited upcoming series, titled “NCIS: Origins,” delves into the early career of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs at what was then called the Naval Investigative Service. Contrary to expectations, it seems that Harmon might not just be a secondary character, as the narrative unfolds over a decade prior to the events in NCIS.
Nonetheless, according to Deadline, David J. North – one of the show’s co-runners – discussed the idea of featuring old Gibbs footage with Harmon and Gina Monreal. As a result, it seems that North will appear in the premiere episode, albeit for a short duration.
In this production, Harmon assumes the role of an executive producer and is responsible for the storytelling. As mentioned by North, the narrative centers around the events of 1991. Moreover, it was emphasized that there is a possibility for Harmon to reappear in future episodes.
Although Harmon has been less involved in recent NCIS storylines, it’s thrilling to anticipate his screen appearances, regardless of the role he takes. Though he may not reprise his original character from the main series, his return in some other form will undoubtedly delight dedicated fans.
In the prequel, Austin Stowell portrays a young character named Gibbs, contrasting with the more reserved and hardened agent he becomes later. Additionally, the series will introduce a younger version of Mike Franks, played by someone yet to be cast, who acts as both boss and mentor to young Gibbs.
Over time, he has developed the ability to suppress his feelings to shape himself into the person he ultimately became. We eagerly anticipate witnessing a completely transformed Gibbs, as portrayed by Stowell in his unique style.
In the preview for NCIS: Origins, there’s a fleeting glimpse of Harmon, leading some to wonder whether it’s old footage or new material from the first episode.
In the upcoming premiere, we may encounter an older version of Gibbs reflecting on his early days with NIS. It’s intriguing to speculate that he could be working on a memoir. There are numerous ways he might feature in the premiere, and we’re eagerly anticipating the revelation! Furthermore, as North hinted, there’s a chance we might see him appear on the show in another time period as well.
NCIS: Origins is set to debut on Monday, October 14th at 9/8 central time on CBS. After that, it will shift to its regular timeslot, which is 10/9c, starting from October 21st.
