As a seasoned viewer of Duplass’s diverse and captivating work, I eagerly anticipate the release of “Penelope” on Netflix. With his knack for creating relatable yet intriguing characters, coupled with Mel Eslyn’s exceptional directorial skills, this teen drama is destined to be a gripping exploration of self-discovery and resilience.
Renowned American filmmaker and actor Mark Duplass collaborated with Netflix to produce a teen drama series titled Penelope. This series is scheduled for release on their streaming platform on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. Here’s some information about the upcoming Netflix show.
Penelope hails from Duplass Brothers Productions, a company owned by the multi-talented actor Duplass. His acting career spans across various movies such as “Creep”, “Creep 2”, “Safety Not Guaranteed”, “Tammy”, “The Lazarus Effect”, “Tully”, “Bombshell” and “Biosphere”. You might also recognize him from his roles in TV shows like “The League”, “The Mindy Project”, “Togetherness”, and “Goliath”. Currently, he’s featured in the drama series “The Morning Show”, available on Apple TV+.
Duplass and Mel Eslyn collaborated to develop a teen drama series, with both of them penning the scripts and Eslyn also directing each episode. Moreover, Eslyn holds the role of showrunner for the series. The executive producers include Jay Duplass, Duplass’s brother, as well as Shuli Harel.
Megan Stott, best known for her roles in Hulu’s drama miniseries “Little Fires Everywhere” and the horror comedy series “Just Beyond”, takes on the main character of Penelope. This 16-year-old girl chooses to abandon her old life and family, setting off on a personal exploration journey deep into the untamed wilderness of Washington State. In this raw, natural environment, she opts to create a fresh start for herself.
As a fellow enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Austin Abrams, known for his roles in “Euphoria” and “Do Revenge”, will be joining the cast as Sam. Krisha Fairchild, who has graced shows like “Krisha” and “Channel Zero: Butcher’s Block”, will play Helena. Lastly, Rhenzy Feliz, recognized from “The Penguin”, “The Tender Bar”, and “Encanto”, will take on the role of Peter. The first season promises eight exciting episodes, a common count for Netflix series. While we don’t know the exact length of each episode yet, we suspect they’ll be at least 30 minutes each. As soon as we have the episode runtimes, you’ll be the first to know!
