Nintendo has formally unveiled the next evolution in racing games: “Mario Kart World” – possibly the most exhilarating journey yet within this beloved series. While the features are undeniably impressive, the cost might leave you surprised. So, what does the new game bring to the table? Quite a bit, it appears.
A New Era For Mario Kart?
For the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo appears to have poured considerable effort into the revamped “Mario Kart World”. Many aspects that were previously familiar have undergone changes, while novel gaming features have also been incorporated.
First things first – the price is steep, as will be the case for many Switch 2 games:
You’ll have to pay $80 for the digital version and $90 for the physical edition.
Instead, let me tell you that as a result, you’ll get numerous gameplay adjustments, significantly overhauled game modes, fresh additions like items, characters, and much more.
You can look forward to experiencing various gameplay modifications, extensively revamped play modes, brand new items, characters, and plenty of other exciting features.
Grand Prix
Upon initial viewing of Nintendo’s announcement, it is evident that numerous changes have been made. Notably, the most recognizable mode, “Grand Prix”, has undergone a total overhaul.
- Time and weather influence and change tracks.
- It appears that not only will a certain number of laps be completed on each track, but players will also have to drive to the next track in an open world fashion.
- Courses can change their route, side roads will be blocked or new paths will be added.
- We see many different new stunts: for example, driving on metal poles or cables.
- In one scene, we see Mario getting into a huge truck, which he can then also drive around.
- There are also new items – some already familiar from Mario Kart Tour – and old items with new animations. Hungry for a Yoshi burger?
Knockout Tour
The trailer hints at the fact that the Knockout Cup events are referred to as “Rallies”. It’s likely that these rallies comprise a series of six individual courses, where each course is completed in just one round.
In uncertain situations, you might also manage to grab someone else’s crown or risk being removed if you’re not quick enough!
Free Roam
Probably the biggest change and the reason why it is now called Mario Kart World is the open world.
A plethora of tasks and adventures are ready for us in this place. It might even have a narrative mode! From P-Switches to boating, there’s definitely something enjoyable for all kinds of players here – and the excitement escalates further as we can also enjoy it cooperatively with friends!
It appears that switching between modes on the updated Switch 2 is effortless and smooth.
Communication
Previously discussed, the trailer presents several fresh ways to engage with your loved ones, including instant messaging, emoticon options, and a photo mode reminiscent of the feature in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Notably, it offers screen sharing as well.
Characters And Costumes
As the number of players engaging simultaneously on a track rises, there’s an exciting prospect of introducing numerous fresh characters. For instance, you might encounter a Goomba, a cow from Moo Moo Meadows, a penguin reminiscent of Super Mario 64, Monty Mole, a Wiggler, even a dolphin… take a look at the trailer to see for yourself!
If you’re eager to style your preferred personalities in a fresh manner, the trailer is a visual feast. As suggested by the trailer, Peach appears with no less than 4 unique costumes, each tailored to the accompanying track. Given that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and the upcoming Mario Kart World have drawn inspiration from Mario Kart Tour, it’s reasonable to speculate that we might see some recurring outfits!
How does the news sit with you so far? Are you looking forward to trying out an entirely novel version of Mario Kart, or do you find the cost prohibitive?
