As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for unique and immersive experiences, I must say that the arrival of Mare on PlayStation VR2 has piqued my interest significantly. Having traversed through the hauntingly beautiful landscapes of The Last Guardian, the similar vibes in Mare resonate deeply within me. However, what sets it apart is the role reversal – this time, I’m not the protector; I am the one being protective.
The virtual reality game titled Mare, developed by Lonekite Games, is now accessible on PlayStation VR2 through the PlayStation Store at a price of $24.99.
What is Mare about?
In this one-of-a-kind puzzle-adventure game, you find yourself in an unusual world and a foreign body – that of a bird-like mechanical being. From your elevated position, you come across a small, forlorn girl who appears to be lost and all by herself.
As a team, you set off on an adventure exploring the enigmatic realms of “Mare”. Your task is to lead your newly acquired partner past challenging riddles and ominous dangers along the way.
Based on its ambiance and overall feel, the game seems strikingly reminiscent of Team Ico’s masterpiece, The Last Guardian. However, unlike in that game where you are protected by a companion, here you take on the role of the protector yourself.
In the game’s description in the Steam shop, Lonekite Games have listed the following features:
- Full Eye-Tracking only gameplay option available.
- Explore the vast and strange landscapes from a viewpoint of a mechanical bird.
- Guide and protect a vulnerable AI companion on her unexpected adventure.
- Explore and discover the underlying narrative spanning over eight chapters.
- Immerse yourself in the ambient atmosphere and otherworldly music for a soothing experience.
- Search for lost artifacts hidden throughout the world in order to unlock the final secret of Mare.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that this extraordinary game made its debut on SteamVR on March 31, 2022. Shortly after, it gracefully navigated its way onto iOS platforms, and has been accessible through the App Store since January 19, 2023.
