Following an earlier private playtest (Alpha), Bungie has decided to postpone the launch of Marathon, their forthcoming extraction shooter. The team intends to utilize this extra time to enhance the game’s survival aspects, social features, and graphics. At present, there is no specified new launch date for Marathon.
This morning, Bungie shared news about the postponement of Marathon through a blog post. In this update, the developers expressed their gratitude to players for their enthusiasm and valuable input on social media platforms and their official Discord server. The team is now utilizing this additional time to bolster their abilities, aiming to create an exhilarating, high-pressure gameplay experience that reflects Marathon’s essence. Bungie plans to carry out further closed tests in the upcoming months.
About a month ago, an allegation surfaced that a studio had taken an artist’s work to create Marathon game assets without obtaining her consent first. Bungie issued a comment on this issue following public worries, though it remains uncertain whether a resolution has been found.
Originally scheduled for release on September 23, 2025, the release date for Marathon has yet to be announced. Keep checking Shacknews for updates as they come in.
