Maranamass is a darkly humorous film in Malayalam that highlights the apprehension of Kerala due to a notorious serial killer. This enigmatic figure has gained infamy for abducting elderly men, striking them with a hammer and stuffing bananas into their mouths, earning him the chilling moniker “Banana Murderer.

During the investigation of a murder, a high-ranking officer grows suspicious of a troublesome young man named Luke PP, whom he believes may be connected to the crime. The narrative then unfolds as the main characters find themselves aboard a bus, with the remainder of the story revolving around whether or not they can capture the real serial killer.

The Good

The film “Maranamass” delivers a rich blend of dark comedy. In terms of its creative composition, it skillfully captures the essence of humor and parody by blending different genres.

Right from the get-go, this movie starring Basil Joseph delivers humorous scenes that linger in your memory. What makes it even better is that it doesn’t solely depend on its leading actor, a trait that sets it apart from many contemporary productions.

In the movie, instead of having Basil Joseph shoulder all the hard work, they’ve got performers such as Siju Sunny, Rajesh Madhavan, and Suresh Krishna delivering a powerful performance that’s brimming with talent and humor.

The film introduces an enjoyable novelty, but its humor becomes less amusing as it progresses, leaving viewers drained by its repetitiveness. Although many aspects of the movie were entertaining, a tighter edit for “Maranamass” could have made it more impactful.
