Recently, Mani Ratnam shared his thoughts on why Tamil films haven’t crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark in box office collections yet.
During the Gobinath interview, the filmmaker explained, “What’s the purpose of making films? Is it simply for financial gain or creating an authentic film that is also quality? Earlier, we focused on whether a movie was good, bad, or average. Nowadays, however, it seems to be more about box office collections.
When asked if these limits might stifle creativity, the director expressed hope that it wouldn’t lead to that outcome in the future.
At present, Mani Ratnam is occupied with a series of interviews due to the upcoming premiere of his film titled Thug Life, which is set for release on June 5, 2025. This action-packed gangster movie stars Kamal Haasan and Silambarasan TR in the lead roles as father and foster son respectively.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but gush over the masterpiece penned by Haasan and Ratnam – a film that spins the captivating tale of Rangaraaya Sakthivel Naicker, an aging don who, in my heart, never truly left us. The whispers of his demise only served to fuel the intrigue surrounding him, leading his adopted son, Amaran, to step into his powerful shoes and lead the mafia gang with a firm grip.
Driven by a thirst for revenge, Sakthivel resolves to engage in a deadly game with the intention of defeating Amaran, emphasizing that their fates have always been connected.
In this film, Haasan and STR are the main characters, while a talented group of actors including Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, among others, take on significant roles.
At a recent event for the release of the soundtrack of the movie Thug Life, its creators were present. As AR Rahman revealed the entire album, many online users paid special attention to the fact that Shruti Haasan sang one particular song in the collection.
