2024 saw the unforgettable release of Bramayugam, a gripping horror drama that I couldn’t tear my eyes away from, starring none other than the legendary Mammootty in the lead role. Directed by the talented Rahul Sadasivan, this masterpiece was launched last February and left film enthusiasts worldwide spellbound with its chilling narrative.

Currently, approximately one year since its premiere, Bramayugam has garnered attention once more following the widespread sharing on social media platforms of a video detailing its use in a course at the UK’s University of Creative Arts. This video, initially posted by a university student on Instagram, showcases that this horror film is utilized as an example to instruct sound design principles within their curriculum.

The video captivated the interest of film director, Rahul Sadasivan, who then posted it on his personal Instagram account as a story.

Since its announcement, there was immense excitement surrounding Bramayugam as one of the most awaited films of 2024. The intrigue of Mammootty playing a villainous character was something that both fans and film enthusiasts eagerly anticipated. Unsurprisingly, they were not left feeling let down.

The story unfolds in the 17th century and revolves around Paanan (Arjun Ashokan), a wandering minstrel who discovers an old manor inhabited by Kodumon Potti (Mammootty), a sorcerer, along with his cook (Siddharth Bharathan). At first, Potti appears friendly, but Paanan eventually understands that he’s been confined within the manor. To his surprise, Potti is not just an ordinary man, but a malevolent deity named Chaathan from ancient legends who resides there.

In a new directorial endeavor, Bramayugam is Rahul Sadasivan’s third project, which also marks his first partnership with acting legend Mammootty. Additionally, Manikandan Achari and Amalda Liz make brief appearances in the film alongside the main characters. YNOT Studios, along with Night Shift Studios, financed this production. Shehnad Jalaal and Shafique Muhammed Ali handled the cinematography and editing aspects of the film respectively.

In terms of his professional life, Mammootty recently appeared in the comedy-mystery movie titled “Dominic and The Ladies’ Purse.” This project was Gautham Vasudev Menon’s first venture into Malayalam cinema. Alongside Mammootty, the film starred Gokul Suresh as the main character. The movie received a mix of positive and negative feedback from critics at the box office.

In the upcoming action-packed thriller movie titled “Bazooka”, newcomer director Deeno Dennis takes charge. Alongside the lead actor, the film boasts talents like Gautham Vasudev Menon, Babu Antony, Shine Tom Chacko, Shammi Thilakan, and others in significant roles. The release date is set for April 10th of this year, when it will grace the movie screens nationwide.
